Yes, I know, lots of threads on this topic. But I have the standard exhaust on my F1 360 Spider.

What's your opinion on upgrading to the Racing style exhaust that has the ECM.

I have not heard it or ridden in a Ferrari that has it.

Will I have to much noise or drone?

So many different exhaust manufacturers out there that u can choose from. You really can't go wrong if u go with one of the well known aftermarket company like tubi, capristo, and a few more. Exhaust is a must it makes it 100x better. The sound is addicting.

I previously (when I bought the car) had a 360CH Challenge car exhaust on my 360 (for sale for cheap if someone is interested) which was just too damn loud for my taste.
Raw sound (see clips from youtube) and loud, but also had some unwanted drone.
No CEL however during 5000kms of use under my ownership.

Now have a Capristo Twin sound exhaust. Best of both worlds.
Silent when flaps closed and pretty damn loud when flaps opened via remote or determined by the engine ECU.
Only drawback is that on track, if there is trackside noise measurement it may not pass due to the fact that the flaps are forced open over 5500rpm and its practically a straight thru pipe direct from the catalytic converters with 2x 90 degree bend.

If there are 30 posts to this threat, you will find 25 different opions on configuration. Stick with well known brands; dont cheap out for a few hundred bucks - it will likely not help in the end with your choice. Go on Youtube to get an idea on sounds...and in this area, its like an art form. One persons exhaust that sounds like a Symphony is another trying to sell that exhaust because it ruined their driving experience.

My recommendation would be to determine what your threshold is for loud and then split the catagory selections into 'loud' and 'not as loud'. For example:

    Loud:
    Tubi NGT
    Factory C/S
    Capistro 3
    430 mod (without vacuum attached)

    Not as Loud:
    Capistro 1 and 2
    Tubi
    430 - with vacuum applied

The performance is a moderate change so dont expect too much in this area. This mod is mostly for a sound change.

Not sure what a "Racing style exhaust with ECM" is but my CS now has Agency headers, Larini test pipes, and the factor can with the valves disconnected. It....is.....glorious!

It is the factory upgraded exhaust, essentially the Challenge Stradale exhaust along with a pair of ECU's programmed for the exhaust.

Ferrari of Denver sent me a letter offering a discount on a factory racing exhaust for my 360. I needed a new clutch anyway, and they had a Challenge Stradale on their showroom floor, which the technical advisor said would sound very much like the factory racing exhaust. So I made an appointment to get the clutch replaced, and maybe to get the racing exhaust. When I got there I had them fire up the Challenge Stradale, and it was just way too loud for me. I cancelled the exhaust replacement. And I have a little bit of hearing loss!

You may find that the louder exhaust suits you just fine, but I would suggest that you find an example of it to listen to before you make any changes.

    Thanks

Thats my issue.. the louder exhaust does not suit me fine. I just want to idle with a cool sound. Actually the stock exhaust sounds pretty good when I floor it.

That is my major concern, it being too loud. I want an exhaust that sounds good. But not to loud. I dont want someone hearing me coming a block away. Plus no drone. Im in my late fifties

There are always different opinions. Apparently its not to loud for you. Wish you were close by. What about cruising is it too loud then?

When you listened to it, were you indoors or out? I picked up my exhaust from Algar yesterday and while there, heard one they had just finished installing. It was very loud, but I thought it was partly because we were indoors in the service garage.

Thanks! Yes, there is a version for all cars now. Mine is a 99 manual. There is now coding for the ECU's for any configuration and any year.

Nice vid... The CS muffler on the 360 sounds nice. But as the OP and another have stated, it may be a tad loud for some. The Fabspeed muffler that we offer will produce a sound that is similar in volume.

However, we have many happy customers that utilize the standard 360 muffler in combination with our headers and/or our 200 cell sport cats or cat bypass pipes. All North American 360s come with 6 cats (2 in the header and 2 each per side in the cat pipe). By switching to our headers and sport cats, you will reduce the number of cats to two and have increased power and sound without having a sound that can be considered too loud for some.

Of course there are many different combinations of products that can produce the sound you are looking for. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Congrats on the CS exhaust install, Alex. It is the best of the 3 that I had on my old car. Where did you get the ECU reprogammed? I didn't think Algar did that. As you know, the CS exhaust is only technically recommended (by FNA) for '04s and '05s, so I know those ECUs are worthless in your 99 as it was in my 00. They are fun paperweights though...

In regards to comments about noise, it is only slightly louder during 'normal' or 'closed' operation but when the valves open, it is really, really loud (but that is usually not a problem). Its also noticably louder for 1 second at start up.

I've got an '04 360 Spider with the factory racing style exhaust installed. At full throttle it sounds amazing. Just, as it's a toy that I barely drive, I wanted something a bit louder. In response to my inquiry re: adding a Tubi, my dealership recommended that we do a slight modification that kept the valves open at all times.

I had them perform this mod and it sounds *awesome*.

I took a brief video and posted it in another thread -- but the video doesn't quite do it justice. How it currently sounds, post modification:

'04 Ferrari 360 Spider w/ factory sport exhaust + vacuum modification - YouTube

Post modification it's borderline obnoxious in terms of volume - which is fine with me as it's a true Sunday driver for me; I live / work in Manhattan and driving is a treat, not a chore. I'll probably have to go out of my way to put more than 2k miles on it.

Thanks Frank! Algar did the reprogramming, rather, they sent the ECU's to FNA and they coded them there. I do have a spare set of ECU's now...figured I'd just keep them around as spares.

For those concerned about noise levels, don't be. At idle it is 84.2 decibels, which is 0.1 dB's louder than a stock F430 exhaust. When the valves are open though, I'll bet it's a different story; however, I don't have the numbers yet.

Just bought this exhaust for my 2001 F1 360. It's from an official dealer, they shipping the ECUs to FNA to have them programmed. I made sure it'll work for 2001 model.

BTW I got a great deal, comes with 2 year warranty.

I am wondering to go with the same exhaust, but just for the curiosity please explain why the ECU upgrade? Would it have to do with the emission values?
