Bernie is wanting to run some of the F1 races, during a proposed 20 race schedule, under the lights. He suggests that the night races be the ones in the Middle East and Asia to allow European television broadcasts during better viewer hours.

Sport cars run under the lights, but with lighting on the cars. The F1 proposal would require that tracks which generally are 2+ miles in length be lit all the way around.

Or maybe Bernie wants lights mounted on the drivers helmets, just like coal miner's protective headgear?

Cooler air is thicker air for the carburetors.

Cooler track temps, can run softer tire compounds?

Thought they used fuel injection not carbs?

They are injected, but still cooler air is more dense and they will make more power.

Why doesn't Bernie go off to a motocross/dirt jumping series, and stop trying to turn F1 into something else?

    Does Bernie drink "New Coke"?

Heck, FIA has killed WRC -- the contract is out on F1 now?

I'm not sure lighting is such a big deal: F1 is so filthy rich, I'm sure they can just install floodlights down the gazoo.

Apart from that: They race in the rain where the following car barely sees anything, so why would artificial lighting be so much more difficult? Also by the time the Suzuka GP is in its final phase the sun normally almost sets and nobody complains either.

I love this idea and think that Bernie should definitely go for it. Although they wouldn't do this, but can you imagine Monaco at night?!

About the lighting, if, somehow, the whole track couldn't be lit up, it would be interesting to see how all the teams would go about putting lights on the cars...hmmm...

Hmmm I dunno I like the idea of night races. F1 is never going to have the passing of NASCAR, so anything they can do to change things up would IMO be an improvement.

I'm not a huge fan of Le Mans night action (because its hard to see whats going on - cool but gets old to watch after an hour) but an F1 race with a lit track would be very interesting.

If we could get the races at a time a few hours later than 5 AM, we could watch live instead of recording it.

I would think for hot climates it would make tremendous sense.

I have been at 24 hours of Daytona. It is great to watch at night.

If the whole track has to be lit up like a Xmas tree, what is the point of having it at night? Part of the charm of Lemans is because it happens all night. F1 races are 2hrs MAX!!

If Bernie was really concerned about European viewership ratings why is he axing all the European races? It make more sense to keep the races in Europe and only have a handful of O/S races. Bernie is looking out for his pockets at the moment not for the sport. The Bernie of old is long retired.

The two tracks currently under discussion for becoming a night race are Melbourne and the new city course in Singapore.

Aw, come on, if you are a real fan, you would get up early. Or better yet, just do not go to bed the night before.

I think Bernie is concerned about the European viewership in regards of the overseas races. If you gets races in glamour spots, like a night street race in Singapore and the new one in the up-and-coming luxury destination spot in Abu Dhabi, I like it.

A night race seems like a good idea, but only if the tracks were lit all the way around. I'm sure F1 cars would look great under the lights, and because of the cooler night air I would think they might be a little faster. But it doesn't really matter, if a race is on at a time that turns out to be in the middle of the night here, then I just don't go to bed.

... okay what are the thoughts on forcing the better half of the world to race under lights so the other half can watch it in the day?

    I say piss off!!

It's great to be able to watch a few in the day time. What is up with Bernie?, it will kill races down here. No spectators will turn up if it's at 11pm or something stupid ... plus people have babies to get to sleep and they don't need 20 or so F1 cars screaming by.

Now I will admit it could be exciting to see, but talk about screw you attitude ...

    - BUMP -

Did nobody care or understand what I was saying?

Bernie wants the Australian GP to race in the mid of the night, under lights so Europe can watch it on day time TV.

I believe this also wanted for Japan and China, etc.

I personally think it is great to be able to watch a few in the day, but would never consider forcing say Spa to be run under lights just so I can watch it in the day time.

Well, it will be cooler and you won't get sunburned. :)

Ecclestone and C*cksucker have the same number of letters. Hmmmmmm...

    Can't win in a p!ssin' contest with a skunk!

Of course you could get the global warming wackos on your side and stop this as a waste of scarce resources and more unnecessary global warming. But then they want to ban cars and car racing entirely...

Reminds me of when Benjamin Franklin's response to Englands sending criminals to America that we should send our rattlesnakes to England as they would benefit from the climate and the new environment. It's all whose ox is being gored and Bernie appears to only care about Bernie,i.e., c*cksucker. Sorry I wish you well. Really I do.
