My trainer showed me a cool new routine today. You grab a 10 # plate & sit on 1 of those large 2.5 ft tall balls w your feet almost together. Stretch you arms out in front holding the plate like a steering wheel & steer lL then R for 1 minute. I felt all the same muscles working as when I am in my race car :)

I've got a similar routine for race car work outs.

I take any one of my numerous racing trophies and practice hoisting it above my head :) It felt the same as when I do it at the race track :)

What a couple of rookies. I find the following workout essential to all racers.

I start with my left arm, reach back into my left pants pocket for my wallet, bring the wallet around to chest height, hold the wallet in left hand while removing a credit card with my right hand, pause, return credit card to wallet, transfer wallet to my right hand, place wallet in my right pants pocket. Repeat in reverse. I am up to easily a couple hundred reps, and no longer need anyone to spot me.

I run for general cardiovascular workout and do upper body strength exercises on the machine. Especially before go kart events I do some lower arm and hand workouts.

I just remembered that somewhere in my racing library I think I have a book about/by? Senna on the diet and workouts he used.

One I once heard about was putting on your helmet and laying off the end of a bench or something and bringing your chin to your chest. Then the same laying on your side bringing your head to your shoulder using you hand as resistance. Seemed to work well.

Who are you calling Rookie??? I am way past the credit card excercise stage. I now practice whipping out blank envelopes and pretending to rip out my sponsor checks and race winnings.

In addition I have an excercise where I lean to one side and then the other (simulates the kiss from the trophy girls on each arm).

    Regards,

    Jon

Cardio such as running, but these days I have been boxing, not sparing, but working with a trainer on focus mits. Great cardio, but also makes your for arms, shoulders and neck pretty strong. Good for karting. Also yoga, good for concentration and focus.

Ah, yes, I do that one, too, but I complete it with a doubled over fall forward to the floor (simulates the hard kick received from my wife).

For about two years, I ran in a series that actually paid! I'll never forget reporting my meager winnings to my accountant, who promptly asked, "did you have any expenses?" Years later, that still makes me smile.
