Anyone know where an easy place to tap into power and ground is on the 430? Prefer it to be up in the headliner area... but just depends.

Will be installing a Valentine 1.

Anyone have pics of their install?

Mine is hardwired from the lighting unit above the windshield. Sorry I can't give details, I had the dealer do it.

I have installed several. The best place for it is in front of the rear window. You would have to make a custom bracket to mount it then run the wires under the carpets. I have aslo installed a concealed display control behind the steering wheel and a separate volume control near the center console. This way the main unit is dark and all the controls can be seen on the concealed display unit. Someone driving behind you will not see any flickering lights from the main unit.

i have experience to install V1 radar in F430.I put the radar nearest to the rear mirror of the front windscreen and then remove the sunvisor & right hand A piller trim cover. The cable use the tape fix inside the head linling along to the A pillar to the lower dashboard. One of the big connector at the lower dashboard can get the ignition on power supply. The earth can mount on chassis under the dashboard.

Just a suggestion here, but, when I had the 360, I pulled out the glovebox and used the V1 power supply mount behind there, tapping into power for the box light itself. (Small diameter wire so the V1 splice/crimp would not cut it). I then ran it up along the A-pillar, along the roof to just right-of-the-mirror. (So it sat high and VERY near/above the mirror to it looked "as one"). Routing of the power behind all of the moulding takes a little time to be very carefull, but can be done.

The reason I used the power mount from V1...THEN....was to get their hidden remote that just plugs into it (the V1 power with the aux slot) and sticky mounted the remote under the center of dash below the radio. Totally out-of-sight and no bright red lights to draw attention)

There's only one way to install a V1 (in my opinion)...

In my 430 and in both my Aston's I had a custom installation done with the display mounted in the mirror. The electronics are hidden in the headliner and the controls are under the dash. If you're in the northeast, I can refer you my installer. It isn't cheap but the result is crazy slick.

I don't have photo of the 430 handy but here's a photo of the install in one of my Astons.

In my Astons it was installed in headliner. In my F430 Spider is was installed under the dash above the gauges. I have tested both against external V1's and I've experienced no difference in performance.

I believe my guy tapped it through the headliner somewhere.

AWESOME! I have seen that install done before... few guys out there doing it. The only prob for me is that the V1 still has to sit out somewhere visible. Would love to see where the front and rear sensors and or the actual v1 unit is

Does anyone have any experience with:

I'm not sure what you mean by "The only prob for me is that the V1 still has to sit out somewhere".

Mine doesn't sit out anywhere. The unit is completely disassembled during install. The sensors are mounted in the headliner. The display is in the mirror. And the remaining electronics are mounted under the dash with the control knobs. Nothing is visible and it looks 100% stock.

Can you mount the V1 in the back somewhere? I have done this in a couple of cars and it doesn't seem to affect sensitivity, it's generally much easier to disguise back there too. If you can get the V1 out of site mounting the remote display somewhere in the dash or in the mirror works great, integrated look as well as stealthy too (especially with a two-way mirror).

Here's another example of the V1 display mounted inside the rear view mirror:

I hope V1 is up to something big - There have been no updates for a long time now, while other companies are coming out with some really great advancements (locking out false signals using GPS, red light camera warnings, etc.) I have 3 V1's, and while the arrows are great, V1 shouldn't rest on it's laurels...

That looks slick. Are Radar Detectors still effective these days with instant on, etc. Going 100+ leaves little time to hit the brakes down to 70. Visual vigilance remains the best protection. I usually hold back unless I can visualize a mile or so stretch of highway. That is one of the advantages of living in rural NC!

You'd be surprised how effective they are. Even with the instant-on guns, cops are generally hitting multiple targets prior to seeing you and the range on the V1 is truly impressive. Mine has saved me many, many times. Even here in the hill country I'm constantly amazed at the range.

Now, if you're on a deserted road and there's nobody in front of you for a mile to make the cop hit his trigger, you might still get nailed. But, in general, cops target higher traffic areas. It's not really efficient to sit in a remote spot and only hit a few cars each hour. They'd much rather hit multiple cars every minute in which case the V1 is a lifesaver.

Could someone maybe post a picture of the F430 looking back from the cabin? Seems to be that would be the ideal location for the V1 to be mounted, there are mounts for Lotus and other cars that work really well back there.

I'm a big fan of stealth installs...That mirror looks really well done.

I'm assuming you have a coupe--any ideas where to locate the main unit ( or the disassembelled parts of the unit in a spider ?

I have done an install in a Porsche convertible, usually where the rear windshield is there is opportunity to fabricate a bracket to hold a radar retector it all depends what there is to attach it to. Most people are understandably reluctant to drill holes in their cars so we'd me booking for a wrap-around fir or a slot that would hold it with friction.

In a Boxster as an example there was a slot just below the rear windshield that took a piece if acrylic and held it nice and tight, a bit of fabrication and we had a neat platform to sit the V1 on top of. Of a stealthy install is the objective the V1 could be placed in a box on the platform.

Actually, no. I have a spider. The sensors are located under the "scoop" right above the gauges (is scoop the right word? what should I call that thing?).

The rest of the electronics are under the dash.

I'm very interested in your setup. So what I understand is that the electronics of the v1 was removed from the v1 shell? Where are the front and rear sensors located? and does it effect its performance at all?

    Thanks

Yes, the electronics were removed from the shell. Read the above posts for the other information you requested.
