Guys, has anyone connected the power cord on a radar detector into the dome light or windshield mounted rear view mirror power supply?(I have homelink integrated into the mirror) I'm trying to avoid the hanging power cable and wondered if anyone has implemented this sort of solution for a 458 spider

Thanks and Happy New Year to everyone in advance!

I have the same concern with my 458 Italia with Homelink. Escort Solo S3 is a good unit and is cordless. It's not as powerful and sensitive as the Max 360 but the advantage is no wiring needed. Finding the mount for the 458 on the rare view mirror is another project in of itself! I've considered the dealer-installed options of the Escort models, but modifying the 458 dash is no small consideration; and therefore I decided to go cordless instead.

You and me both! I have the same dilemma, I have a solo S2 on my M4 but its been not all that effective... I'm considering an S3 for the Spider as opposed to hard wiring into the car, do you find it effective as a detector?

I researched many different makes and functions. The Solo S3 seems to be 'adequate' for what my needs. Lots of positive ratings online. I only has it for a few days so I can't tell if it really does what it claims. Will report back here in a couple of weeks, with or without traffic tickets!

I'd like to install the 9500CI but the extensive installation and dash modifications kind of scare me. The Solo S3 is the only good cordless solution I can find. I'm still searching for a suitable mount for it. Blendmount does not have one that fits the 458 rearview mirror.

I had my dealer hard wire a Snooper 3Zero and I think they took a link from the radio and nav controls and the wire pops out on the right top of dash board or left for the LHD :):)

I have installed 9500CI in 5 cars so far... the installer can either be very savvy about placing the little display and control remotes so that you don't cut or shave anything... or he can be really brilliant (like installing the display *inside* the rear view mirror which makes it invisible until you turn it on plus installing the remote on the roof so it's not sticking out anywhere on the dash).

I've owned different detectors since the 1970's both installed and portable and the Escort custom is excellent and reliable for years.

Anybody has experience with valentine? Does the radar detector really help, anyway cops can trick it?

I do. Its every bit as good as the Passport for radar and I like the directional arrow to tell you that your being gunned from the rear. Does not have laser shifting...only detection. It's a great radar detector...just not that stealth.

Thanks! Do they have to remove the dash to install?

I don't know in your case, but I came in on the middle of my install on the 458S and here's a pair of legs sticking out the door and seemingly E-V-E-R-Y panel had been pulled off... the rear view mirror disassembled on the passenger seat... I had a silent heart attack (!!) But... not a scratch afterwards :)

9500ci is the standard install here. This is where the control install is.. display in the mirror

however, I jus upgraded to the Stinger since the 9500 doesn't protect against the variable rate laser guns.

Is it true that these stuff will keep beeping when going near cars with blind spot detection or cruise control?
I'm thinking to get one because nowadays many cops are in normal undercover cars, but afraid it keeps beeping all the time so end up turning it off.

How much does it cost to install the 9500ci? The unit itself is about $2,000 retail, correct?

Does that mean the installation alone is about $1,000?

I have a Valentine 1 and it works great. Detects front and rear. Yes, there are some false alerts but you can reprogram the V1 to eliminate them.
On my 360 I wired it into the dome lamp, but on the 458 I just use a thin cable from the accessory port.

Would also love to connect my Valentine One to the 458 dome light like I did in my Porsche. For now I'm using the non coiled phone cord cable to the cigarette lighter. Not ideal but better than nothing.
