Found some old threads about them but nothing really new. Any recommendations on a great detector? I just bought my first Ferrari- an 86 328 GTS, and I’d like to worry a bit less about racking up tickets.

It really all depends on (a) how much you are willing to spend, (b) what features you need, and (c) what is legal in your jurisdiction (especially applies to laser jammers). A good starting point is Vortex Radar (https://www.vortexradar.com/) and his associated YouTube channel. He has a good list of lots of top options.

Where are people mounting them since we can’t put on windshield legally? Blend mount on the rear view? Dash?

Instead of worrying, why not learn to drive responsibly and safely ?

But should you fail to do that and/or receive a ticket for the discretion, why not grow a pair or at least act like a real man and pay the consequences ?

And if I may offer another suggestion, whatever you do, try not to expose yourself on public forums as yet another pathetic f’n snowflake asking recommendations for lawyers skirt to hide behind.

Are you kidding me?!? Why don’t you go outside and do some exercises to blow off some steam. Something’s not right for you to reply with something like that. Why reply at all if you have nothing to add? You need some help man.

And for the record for all the future fchatters who see this thread- I’m asking about a radar detector not so I can go out and drive like an a**hole but because a red Ferrari is a magnet for cops. I’m sure most would agree.

What A D***, you probably don't even own a car at all...driving a bicycle? Anyone with a Ferrari understands the car was made for speed and most are pretty responsible with them. Move to Missouri or something pls...

Thanks BrettC. I couldn’t believe it when I read his post. Most hostile and I insulting reply to a completely innocuous and innocent ask for help I’ve ever seen.

I have a valentine in my truck and a installed enhanced escort in my 360....I think I like the Valentine better for the directional detection capabilities. Its nice to know where they are coming from. I like the laser shifters in the the escort though. It is a little slow on the detection though...maybe due to it being mounted so low in the bumper of the car. My Valentine is high up in the truck window and I believe that makes a big diff in detection. HTH

It appears my lack of appropriate, modern day sensitivity training and my tendencies to speak/write my mind has yet again ruffled some feathers.
While my comments weren’t necessarily intended directly at the OP, I can see how they can be viewed as such.
They stem from 40+ years of observations of idiotic/stupid driving, mostly committed by drivers in variety of high(er) performance vehicles, but not limited to Ferraris or similar exotics and just make rest of us look bad in public view.

Just few days ago I encountered a situation where some idiot in a late model Camaro/Challenger/Whatever probably though he(?) was hot s**t and that the road laws/rules don’t apply to him(?), nearly caused a serious multi-car collision by performing an absolute dick move and startling several others drivers in front and behind me.
Fortunately, I saw the potential havoc this dickhead was about cause earlier than drivers, allowing me to slow down ahead of the pending panic they were about to experience and help alleviate chances of collision.
Unfortunately, due to getting stuck in the midst of the confusion the dick head caused, I wasn’t able to go after the a*****e, as I sure would’ve liked to try catch him(?) and if successful, beyotch slap the crap out of him.

Also, just two weeks ago, while out enjoying one of my classic cars, I got rear ended by another miscalculated dick move by yet another idiot in some BMW sport sedan.

Besides, it’s pretty obvious when someone is looking to buy/install a radar detector, they’re not intending to drive within legal speed limits.

But the worse are those who get caught doing something stupid like speeding and then run to internet forums seeking recommendations for lawyer’s to help them out of the predicament.
So after +/-15 years on this forum and having seen countless “Help, I need a traffic lawyer” threads started by these pu**ies, I just wish they would do somewhere other than automotive forums, so that the general public reading them wouldn’t think all car enthusiasts are pu**ies like that.

And let’s not forget the fact that the LEO with radar is just performing his/her publicly/tax payer funded job to catch those who think laws/rules don’t apply to them, along with attempting to prevent accidents and endangerment of other road users (including me) these idiots often cause.
Using (illegal ?) radar detection devices is also clear indication of person’s disrespect toward any and all LEOs and the jobs they’re hired to do.

If you want to drive as fast as you dare, join a car club that organizes track events and sign up for those.

As for wanker with a bicycle reference and his apparent disapproval/-respect expressed toward those who ride them, while I do occasionally ride for exercise and pleasure on local trails, I'm not an avid cycler nor is one my only means of transportation.
I can also recall devastation another wanker wannabe hotshot driver caused when he plowed (at high speed) into the mother (killing her) of one of my lifelong friend, while the father saw it all riding about hundred yards behind her. They were just out for a Sunday ride, in the countryside, near their vacation cabin, when this idiot came through racing and miscalculated(?)/-handled distances, his own skills and speed.
My friends father couldn't shake the images of the experience/scene and PTSD(?) from his mind and ended up taking his own life couple of months later.

What did you end up getting? Why? How is it performing? Would you make the same choice if you were to buy again today?

OK, back to the topic at hand.

I've been a long-time Valentine user. Between Valentine and Waze, I've avoided any issues. The plus on Valentine is that you can get it upgraded versus needing to buy a new one every time there is something new.
