The Bearcat is only useful if Highway Patrol departments are still hanging on to the General Electric RANGR systems or systems that antiquated. Example, the California Highway Patrol statewide repeater frequency is 154.905Mhz, that goes from their portables to the car. IF local police departments are on the new equipment, trunked 800 and 900Mhz bands, then you are back to square one relying on your radar detector. Local department portables go directly to the towers and not the cars. It's another helpful option if the HP is using those systems detectable by the Bearcat.

There should be another hack coming up, large city departments are buying into GPS tracking for their cars and portables. In addition to response time tracking and unit-to-district dispatching, is that when cops radio in their location, it will show that they really are where they say they are at. Imagine that???

There's a photochromatic mirror thats made if you supply the V1 to use with the mirror... they take apart a remote display and mount it in the mirror, its 400-600 bucks on E-Bay and I know the types of mirrors used are OEM mirrors for Porsche and Jaguar (same mirror), possibly other makes as well.

I thought about this but it seems to me you don't want everyone seeing your display...thus I have always mounted my detector up high (to the right and slightly behind the rearview to allow the rear antenna to work) and then mount the remote display on top of the steering column...inline with my sight, but below the beltline so others won't use you as a rabbit. Also useful if you live near radar "illegal" places like DC, Conn or BC canada and "forget" to remove it.

if you go to radartests.com they say that all rocky mountain radar products blow chunks, but give them credit for starting the jammer issues.........the escort sr7 with the zr3 lasar shifter is the best thing on the market......radartests.com says the escort zr3 is 99% effective........know only if I had $1200 sitting around....

The Valentine One is the best all-around radar and laser detector with real 360 degree protection. The X50 loses to the V1 by 2-3 miles in Ka band rear detection because it only has one forward facing antenna and it relies on radar waves bouncing around to receive it.

The V1 is better than the X50 or Rx65 as seen in videos proving it.

    Here is why:

1)V1 detects LA laser gun in stealth mode, the 8500 X50 & RX65 do not.
2)V1 detects instant on radar using the quick trigger 100% of the time, the 8500X50 detected it only 56% of the time.
