There are a bunch of good ones available. Get the multi-band one with laser detection. The laser detection only lets you know to start slowing down so the police won't chase you as far. Once you get lasered, they got you and there is no chance to slow down first. While these detectors work well, don't forget the old ways, like measuring speed based on time between road marks. Often this is used by cops in the air.

Valentine One for radar and Blinder M20 to jam laser "lidar". Together they are the best protection available.

You need to do some reading to inform yourself about what you're getting and what you're not with different (i) radar/laser detectors, and (ii) laser jammers. A great place to start with reviews of the best detector and jamming brands is by www.guysoflidar.com who do hands on comparative testing for effectiveness.

On the subject of Jammers: I have what is considered one of the best combined detectors/jammers -- an Escort SRX detector with laser jammers in my CS. All stealth in bumpers, cost around $1,500 with lengthy installation. The jammers work and have saved my butt when hit with tripod laser. BUT, this seemingly new system is already slipping behind. It now seems about 1/2 as effective as a new jammer called "Laser Interceptor", again see the amazingly comprehensive summary table comparing jammers by GuysofLidar. And, so, I'm waiting and will replace my current system with Laser Interceptor.

On the subject of radar/laser detectors: I used to have an Escort 8500 X50, considered about equal to the V1 by many. Now Escort has come out with its new 9500i, which is supposed to do a better job of detecting POP mode radar. And, it seemed better than V1 which had neglected POP and was downgraded by critics awhile back. But then V1 just came out with much stronger POP detection in their very latest detector. Guys of Lidar show V1 emerges to the top again over the 9500 as it fully detects 2 out of 3 types of POP radar, wheres the 9500 only detects one out of 3.

As others have said, if you get only a radar/laser detector and get hit by laser, its too late, they've got you. A modified yes on that one. I've just bought the latest V1 for my 993Turbo and ALSO have VIEL, a seemingly stupid, dark, ugly liquid thats brushed over the license plates (and headlights), giving about 400 ft blockage on a laser gun before it punches through. GuysofLidar test it and are amazed: it works! And so, if I get a laser alert, I'm hoping the ugly VIEL will give me about 200-300ft of braking time before the laser "punches through" and correctly clocks my speed.

BTW, the former post recommending a combination of V1 and Blinder jammers is good too. But again, the Blinder appears about 2/3 as effective as Laser Interceptor. As I said, I'll stick with the V1 and VIEL in the meantime, then fork out for new jammers when 'Laser Interceptor' is available.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Just out of curiosity, I'm planning on buying a V1 for my dad soon for his CS, and I was wondering how well the radar works when the unit is mounted at the top of the windshield as opposed to the middle of the windshield? And, is it possible to wire the unit to draw its power from the clock/light accessory panel up top?

Valentine One hands down. The only bad thing is they do not have a actual hardwired version, but you can hardwire the "remote" display and still move the unit to your other cars. I have a Passport 9500 installed in my 360 and hardly turn it on.

JAdamz - The unit needs to have an unobstructed rear view for the laser/radar to work from the rear. I usually have mine just beneath the rearview mirror. I wired my remote display into the fuse box on my Diablo and mounted the remote diplay in the ashtray under the lid....ran the power cord around window frame and it comes out behind rearview mirror. I will take pictures and post tonight.

If you want the best radar/laser detector, get a Valentine One.

If you want the best laser jammer, get the AL, LPP, or the soon to be released in the U.S. Laser Interceptor.

Ok, thanks. He'll probably just mount the V1 right under the rearview mirror then. He doesn't want to hack the car up too much for a "custom" install, plus there's not many places on a CS to hide the display anyway.

I am not aware of any that really work for jaming the radar. Myth Busters tested a bunch and non made any difference regardless of the technology. Laser was the most accurate of all.

It appears that having multiple cars "hard wired" is expensive and uncertain given changing technology. Is there a radar "detector" and "jammer" with easily re-programmable soft ware to keep up? Sounds like V-1 and Escort with Interceptor are best for now, but what about tomorrow? Best

I have had the SRX system now in 3 cars and it has worked great, I also like the way its integrated versus the mobile system. It is costly ~$1500 installed but if you are buying a $200k+++ car who cares. I am putting one in my F430 when it arrives.

    David,

I would suggest that you give Kevin Wright (818-882-1810) a call. He is generally regarded as the best radar/laser installer in Los Angeles. Most of the local Ferrari and Lambo owners go to him for installation. If you post his name to the Southern CA Fchat board, you will receive nothing but glowing endorsements.

Unfortunately, if you put the SRX in your F430, you're installing a system that has slipped behind, performs about 1/2 as good as laser interceptor. I have SRX in my CS and am ticked it doesn't contain a software that can be upgraded as they surely must be developing something more advanced in the near future. Wouldn't put SRX in any new car until they come up with something new. If you want to see how SRX performs vs. 'Laser Interceptor', go to www.guysoflidar.com and look at their latest comparison and summary table.
