use the seach feature. Search on K40, V1, Valentine, and Passport.

I have V1 and passport and K40. Drove 335 miles in the CS today and used all three. Saved me 2 tickets that I know of...

Second the 9500ix, especially in an area like SoCal, where you'll have false alarms all over the place.

Id go with a K40 with the scrambler function. you cant see it in the car at all - except little warning lights (like an alarm light) that are placed where ever you see fit. One for warnings coming from the front and one for warnings in the rear. There is an option for scrambling in the rear and it comes with one for the front...typically the front is all you need.

The laser has a hard time even picking up F-cars because they work best with a flat reflective surface. Scramblers are sold in CA...and while I wouldnt advertise that you have one, i wouldnt be shy about putting one in your car.

Escort Redline. It is the Escort model that is most effective at picking up radar and lidar. My Solo 2 was good, but the Redline seems to look around corners to find signals--just what I need on the back roads.

I saw the redline...did you compare it to passport 9500? If yes, what does it do better or is it just a lower priced alternative?

Escort claims that the Redline is their most sensitive, has the longest range, and is the best at detecting radar/laser. Other models have other features that would be useful to many people. I would suggest calling or going to their website for details: 866-468-0329,escortinc.com.

I purchased a 9500ix easy to run power from the fuse box (used add a circuit) and purchased visor mount/ clip ... You can see the detector but no cords. Very few false signals and has saved me 3 times over a 12 month period.

You use all three units? Any advice on the cigarette lighter splitter? I am afraid I will fry the electronics with the wrong type!

Personally, I've had the V1 since 2007 and it's saved me many tickets so far. It really does pick up the radar signals from far away.

Valentine 1 has been an all-star for me, and I'm going on my 9th cross country drive from Cali to Toronto. I have the heads up display as well. You can tune it to the frequencies in your state, but I love it. I don't know how I ever drove that long drive without it.

Valentine 1 is the one for me these last 11 years!! I've had the firmware upgraded a few times and then did a hardware refresh last year. It's saved me countless times but must still keep keen eye for police because increased laser use is not fun.

Not all three at the same time! The K40 is built into the car so that is always on. I power the Passport 9500 or the V1 from the cigarette lighter - I use the V1 on the open highway and the passport around town. So I always have K40 and one of the other two on...its fun to see which picks up which falses and which alerts soonest...

I use both Passport 9500 in the Ferrari and V1 in my other cars. Both are basically bulletproof vs. conventional radar. The only time they have nailed me is twice with lasers by Cal Hwy Patrol. Now I hear the local cops are going to start using lasers as well so this is going to be an increasingly major problem for us. Any suggestions other than a laser shifter?

LI (Laser interceptor) would help a great deal. The best way is to be in the middle of the pack not lead or the last one - in this case.

The V1 has a laser interceptor but my understanding is that since laser doesn't bounce you dont get a signal until youve been detected, i.e. you dont get a signal if the car ahead of you is lasered. So I don't know if LI or middle of the pack would help but I'm happy to be corrected if you see it differently.

I am thinking that when the car(s) in front got lasered, they might ignore the following ones :) ?

Also, I think LI has jamming function as well - but it is illegal to use in CA (and some): http://www.laser-interceptorusa.com/11201.html

Bottom line is if you detect laser, it's too late. Common sense can help but only panacea is a laser shifter like LI or M47 blinder. Since original post called for a $1k budget, I'd recommend V1 for radar detection. But getting true laser protection to go with that and staying inside of that budget could be tough unless instal can be done on ones own without a pro....not for the feint of heart and perhaps unwise to save a few bucks on a $175k car.
