I would like some opinions(if anyone has an opinion) regarding Radar/Laser Detectors. Cordless, Wired, Built-in or none? What brand or brands would also be appreciated.

I just order my V1 today. I do not understand why people are paying so much for V1 on ebay while you can get the latest one w/ warranty directly from Valentine at almost the same price……

V1 really works as advertised. The only problem in a Ferrari is that the cigarette lighter plug that comes with the V1 sometimes does not fit very snugly and can cause your fuse to pop. This happened to my 575 and Superamerica. The solution is to get a two-in one adapter from Radio Shack which fits much better into the car receptacle and the V1 plugs right into one of the two available extension receptacles. The upside is that I can use the 2nd receptacle for my G-tech.

The best solution is to hard wire the V1 into a power source in the car with the hard wire kit that is included with the V1. Several people on this forum have done it and I'm sure a search will turn up one particularly good thread with detailed instructions. Otherwise any high end car stero place will do it for about an hour's worth of labor.

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.826 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.

I would also highly suggest installing a laser based "parking sensor" like the LaserPro Park.

we have a built in K40 in the tt. I'll post some pics... very well concealed. There are two warning lights behind the steering wheel, the one on the right means trouble ahead, and the left means trouble behind. If you are driving by a radar trap, the front will go on, as you pass the trap, both will be on, and as you drive away, just the rear will go one. You can see the sensors in the front center grill and rear lisence plate surround. The dial behind the shifter is super easy to use-- there's an outer ring for city/highway/off. And there's a central volume adjusment. (see pictures).

My 328 came with built in K40. Being curious, I used it alongside the V1. The K40 was a worthless joke by comparison. Granted, it was an older system, but they have not tested well in C&D reports.

Have both K40 and hard wired v1 in a 575; have run both systems at the same time, many times over many miles, and I agree with Hardtop re the K40.

I have owned an ESCORT for over a year now and would not trade it for a Valentine ever. Talk to the Pro's who have tested both. There are many articles on line. The ESCORT will never let you down. It was $300.00 for the blue LCD which was better than the Red LCD for reading purposes during the day. It will pick up Laser and Ka two miles out and around the curves.
Good luck if you by a Valentine.

I don't believe in any radar detector, I just drive fast where and when I feel like I wont get busted by the pigs. Radar detectors are a bunch of useless beep sounds that will only tell you that you got busted. Use your common sence and you wont get pulled over.

I have used an escort for over ten years and am now using the 8500 hard wired into my overhead center light on my 550. It is wonderful and give me warnings of 2 miles or more.
Don't even think of speeding on a regular basis without some type of good detector.
I run past and through cops with Ka band radar working every day. It saves me a ticket every time.

V1 V1 V1 V1 there is no substitute. I have tried the Escort and Bel head to head with the Valentine--Valentine wins. Back in the '80's Escort was #1, but today it's Valentine; while you are at it order a blinder extreme lazer jammer and really have some fun: http://www.blinderxtreme.com/

Why spend a lot of money on a gadget that keeps annoying you (and destractiong you) from serious driving ? I ditched mine 6 months after buying it (V1).
After having a long discussion with one of my friends (who happens to be a police officer, highway patrol) he confirmed that they always take two shots with the lazer, about 1 sec. after eachother. Your reaction time is typically 1 second. That means that when your lazer gadget gives a warning signal, it is only to tell you that you have a ticket waiting arround next corner. If you hit the brakes makes no difference at all.....
And radars...-is those still in service....?

That is why you get the V1 and the Blinder Xtreme. They both work well together. I also have a friend that doesn't belive in "them"....Just recently he got pulled over, with me in the car, for going 95 in a 40 wasn't laser it was Ka Radar. Most of the people that get annoyed by the V1 don't have it programed on the right setting or know how to interpret the alert.

All you have to do is put the V1 on "local" mode and 95% of the false alarms are removed. I have been saved from laser a number of times because it picks it up bouncing off cars in front of me. Around here, most cops still use radar. They often have it on when cruising 2 lane roads. The V1 is perfect for that. I used a new battery powered escort in my p/u last year and promptly got a ticket under those circumstances. I was only going 10 over and did not get enough warning. So, I used the escort alongside the V1 for a while to test. The escort is now for sale.
