Let's say that one would be interested in obtaining an active radar/laser jammer(for the expressed purpose of clinical testing on closed roadways, of course)...

These tests would utilize the accompanyment of a V1 radar/laser detector. What are the legal issues involved, how do they work, where are they available, and will anyone take my clinical tests seriously? ;) !

The radar jammers don't work that well b/c the legal ones are not very powerful. Just about every test I have seen for them has proven them to be just about useless. The ones that worked only did so within about 20 feet.
From what I have read for one to actually work it would have to be so powerful it would screw up all kinds of things.

Laser jammers work great. Lidatek makes a popular one and so does escort. The lidatek turns off after a few seconds to let them get a speed on you after you slow down so you dont draw too much attention. I dont think the escort cycles off so it keeps jamming until the threat is gone. A lot of the gumball guys used the lidatek jammer b/c it covers most guns used in Europe as well as the US.

Now that I have settled on a daily driver I will probably be picking one up shortly. I have not decided yet which I want. I lke that the escort unit has a display with a readout where the lidatek just has a light and a tone.

Laser jammers use invisible IR light and not radio waves. It is regulated by the FDA and not the FCC so not much attention has been given to it. SOme states have outlawed thm I think. Ours have not. BTW Causeway police have been seen using lidar(laser) in the daytime hours recently. State police use lidar too; they have, i think, about 8 guns per troop. THey like to have their trunk open and stand behind it to hide so be on the lookout. I've seen them doing this on i10,i12 and HWY 190 in Mandeville.

Back in the 70's I was getting tickets left and right for speeding. I once got three tickets in one day. My plan was to get a jammer off an A-6 Intruder and use it to burn the radar gun of any cop who put the beam on me. Somewhere along the line I found out that I would go to jail for doing that. It's called interfering with police in the line of police business, or something along those lines. So I gave upon that idea because I knew that I could get away with it a couple of times, but eventually I'd be caught and would spend too much time in prison for simple speeding. Sometimes I still consider it though.

The cop is overconfident in his equipment... say.... in a group of cars...how would he know which car fried his toy? :D Or should I say, how would he comprehend what happened to his toy! * evil grin *

they start at around $300 for a front jammer and go up from there depending onhow many more you add. It is best to have them front and rear but most of the time they target the front of the car.

I bought a blinder M10 laser jammer on a group buy last year. Its the best investment you can make if you like to drive fast. The blinder has an alarm that goes off to let you know its jamming then you slow down and push a toggle button to shut it off so they can get your speed.

Thanks Ike. What are some of the top brands and what's the best place to buy it? Price isn't really an issue, as long as they are reliable.

The Escort zr3 comes with three jamming units so it offers the most coverage.
    http://www.escortradar.com/zr3.htm

The Escort SR7 is a remote radar detector that can be used with escort laser jammers. http://www.passportsr1.com/sr7.htm

The lidatek looks to be the most simple but depending on how many jammer units you add can have just as much coverage.

    www.lidatek.com

Someone mentioned in another post about the Blinder unit. I know nothing of this unit so I can't comment.

The escort units are supposed to be sold through authorized dealers but they are sold on the web. I didn't give you those links b/c I don't know if they are authorized dealers. I would not want to give you the name of a unreputable dealer. The escort website can point you to a dealer in your area.

The top brand would have to be the Escort. I have used their radar detectors for years with no problems at all. I would assume their laser products or of the same quality; I have been told that they are very good but have not used them.

Many people online have had good things to say about the lidatek units. I don't know who they are made by and have no experience using anything from them so I can't vouch for their quality. They were used by a few people in the last Gumball in Europe. I asked one of the guys how he liked it and he had nothing but praise for it.

I was mistaken on the price. I thought the lidatek unit was $300 but is starts at $399.

Thanks again Ike. This is very helpful information. I'll probably buy a few for my 360 and see how I like them before I get them for my other cars.

I have the Escort SR7/ZR3 laser shifters installed in my GT3 and they've worked well. The best thing is that they are concealed and ALWAYS on. I haven't compared to my Valentine 1 but seems to have just about the same range of initial pickup.

I haven't actually pulled over to ask an officer if the ZR3 worked, I'm just assuming it works as advertised ;)
