Like most of you..I've had a lot of fast cars. I had a radar detector but to be honest with you I paid TOO much attention to it. Driving fast became more of "am I going to get caught" vs. "this is fun..right?". Question...anyone agree? I got rid of my detector years ago and ended up a happier driver. Instead of arbitrarily driving fast I chose only to drive fast(er) where I felt I had a better chance of fewer (if any) run-ins. Thoughts?

I feel nekkid without my "radar wave detection device". Though LIDAR is infesting our cities, revenue department still have to depend on radar to some extent while in moving around in their cars. With the rains coming, LIDAR is useless in a sprinkle. I like to know if I'm being "shot" by revenue departments.

The CHP uses Stalker Dual on the Ka band. No falses on Ka and their Stalkers throw a stong signal. Though the Stalker system will detect the fastest object in the pack, it does not pin-point an individual object. Per the manual, there is mention that it will grab the largest reflective target first. There is plenty of ammo for an attorney to shoot down the radar.

I guess I'm a little diff. I feel more confident driving faster now knowing my device will let me know ahead of time if trouble is coming.

So far it"s been good to me, Haven't had ticket in five years and I drive fast All the time knock on wood:)

I don't use one. First, in Dallas you would get so many hits that you would be spending more on brake pads than on the tickets...I just drive the limit on the city streets, and let maybe 5 or 10 slip in on the freeway, depending on the natural flow of traffic. Not standing out much is pretty important with a red Testarossa.

In cross country driving, it is not too hard to notice a little convey that are watching one and fall in behind. I am talking safely doing 80,85 or so. In the curving mountain roads, I just take pleasure in the scenery and the road itself - no heavy speeding needed. And, most of the time - impossible anyway with the profusion of bikers in cruiser packs.

Sooo - I have noticed just what you said: I found that these things were spoiling my car fun.

J2J, I have to agree with you. I have not had a V1 in my 355 spider for the past 4 years, because of security issues, since I always have the top down. I have one wired up permanently in my BMW. And sure enough, I gotta agree, it is a bit more relaxed not having it, and having to react to the alarms, etc. I haven't been stopped yet in it...and that is 23k+ miles of driving in the 355, and almost 40k more in a 308 and 328...never got stopped. Can't say the same in the BMW.... :(

I bought a cordless radar detector to put in the fcar and I have used it maybe twice. I found myself paying to much attention to it and usually, if it goes off, you're already tagged!

The only time I use it is when I'm in my other car going on long trips. It's just to help me incase i dont see a change in speed zones on rural highways, a little insurance if you will

If you are going to drive truly fast like say over 100mph will it save you? Below that it's all slow so what is the point of going >75 when you can just stay no more than 10 over and not give it a another thought?

I usually just find someone else with one and follow them if I don't know the area.

Went to ATL yesterday, and did a consistent 90+ when I got out of Tennessee by simply waiting for someone to come along who was willing to speed.

Came back in the dark and didn't risk it, and there was more than one moment when I'm glad i was sitting at 76 instead of 86...

I've never owned one. My granddaddy had one and it was the most annoying thing in the world around town...across country I can see how it would serve you well, though.

At this point it just isn't worth three hundred bucks and the constant beeping, because I've lived in the same area for 13 years and know where they sit.

I have a cordless detector, and only use it when I'm going fast, usually on highways. Otherwise I keep it in the glove compartment.

I enjoy driving, and I agree with you that worrying about speed traps takes the fun out of driving.
