Am having a serious senior moment. Feeling stupid for asking just a basic question but prefer to look stupid as well than do the wrong thing. Checking fluids after winter hibernation. Is this correct? Golden age my a$$ Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ironic. I just flushed my coolant yesterday and refilled it with a vacuum. I too had a senior moment and had to look at some old threads to adjust it to the proper level. While we are on the subject, I have never been able to drain more than about 10-12 liters of the 17 liter capacity. I’ve tried blowing compressed air in the reservoir and even applying vacuum at the radiator drain plugs. As a result, I end up refilling, running at operating temperature for 30 minutes with the heat on high and doing the whole thing again once it cools. Anyone have a better, one shot method? The balance is stuck in the engine and other places below "grade". There's a plug on the engine but it's brass and a very small size hex head so I'd rather flush, flush, flush, then touch that sucker. Don't forget to turn on your heater when you're flushing the coolant. There's a bunch stuck in your heater heat exchanger that won't circulate out unless the heater pump is on.
If you are changing your coolant on a regular basis and not changing the type in there .. don't overthink it ..just drain as much as you can and replace with 50/50 mixture Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
If you want to flush ..drain as much as you can ..fill using vacuum tool with distilled water .run till reach operating temp..cool...repeat 2 3 times and then on final fill using concentrate coolant (fill with the amount that is half the capacity) and then full remain with distilled water .. Why worry so much about fill level? The car knows that better than any of us. Just make sure cap is still good (Probably not those caps are crap) and fill it near the top. It will push out enough to create the needed airspace. There are a lot of variables. There is no single right level.
Thanks Brian. What happened was that after adding fluid to get to the level @Manual I thought it was too full. I have never needed to add in the 10 years of ownership (I flush every 2 years) - cheap insurance to protect my new HX.
I wish someone would make a billet version and a proper seal. They are available for other cars, like my old Porsche. Similar to this Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oh, I am quite sure that the welders or machinists who makes these sorts of parts/projects will know how to incorporate that. Not rocket science for those with the capability.
