    2 problems

    First.............

I've got new radiators and new fans.

New thermostat was put in about 2 years ago.

However, the fans seem to be cutting in late. From engine start, the temp needle goes past the middle point before the fans cut in.

The rest of the time it stays just past the middle point, occasionally going further before the fans cut in.

    Both fans are working.

    Any ideas?

    New sensor needed?

    Second.......

The oil rad fan is not coming on. I've checked the relays, fuse and power. All ok.

Decided to get the OEM senosor this time as it looks liek teh cheaper intermotor part may be defective.

Teh problem.... when i removed the sensor, the inside of the rad where the sensor goes has crusted over.

How can I clean it up and what can I do to stop it from happening again?

    thanks

Try cleaning up the contacts for the sending unit on the radiator first. It may just be a connection problem.

My 348 does the same, fans don't kick in until the needle gets close to the 5 in 195. I think this is by design.

My fans don't come on until passed the half way point either (355). I just had a new fan (driver side) installed about 1mo. ago and was told that is normal. It was 104 here on sat, ran the car pretty hard and had stop and go traffic never went above the 5/8th mark (100c) even sitting at a light for over 5 min. Oil temp got to about 105c

The gages and sensors are notoriously bad. the 348 oil coolr sensor on the outside of the metal frame is a total joke. You can go to a good autoparts store and match the sensors for the trigger point you want. You need to check the coolant or oil temp with a reliable guage first to dtermeine if the sensors are kicking in at the right time. They could be right and the guage wrong or vice versa. You can test the sensors by putting ohm meters on them and boiling water or if over 100 degrees C you can use oil and heat it and get anywhere from 100-400 degrees pretty easy.
