I have fixed enough mechanical to get my 308 to a daily driver. Then I moved on to the stereo. It came with an alpine tape deck and an amp in the trunk. I also discovered crossovers and crazy stuff in the passenger side foot well. The radar detector does work, just doesn't read the Laser.

I am posting pics in case anyone has ever seen this?

I hooked up a new head unit and bypassed the amps to see if it was the old head unit or the amp. It turned out to be the head unit so it seems like everything else is in good shape.

Everything was installed by Ultrasmith in NYC in 1984. They used lamp wires everywhere. What a mess.

Tweeters in the doors underneath the handles, 5 1/4 in the doors as well. And two 5 inch subwoofers in between the seats mounted on the firewall.

    Any advice?

Well it seems likely all the speaker materials are cooked by now. I can only imagine that those two 5" woofers impede storage of the targa top.

I'm not one of these "don't put a radio in there, all you need is the sound of the engine" people... I get bored driving in traffic or cruising down the freeway. I'm pretty content to put some decent speaks in the doors with enough power to hear with the top down. Not many people are making the effort to build good sound in these cars, the radio in one of these is best used to help the time pass between doing fun things!
