Have a 550 and the radio control knobs have turned softer (then when car was new) and sticky. Is the a common problem? Does anyone know where to obtain replacement knobs and how to replace them. The knobs do not seem to just pull off. I did not want to use to much force and break something. Thank for any input you are able to give on this problem.

On my 2000, 550 .... 13k miles. I have a factory radio ... no such issues ..... car is garaged ... but I do drive it and leave it in the sun when parked away from home.

My radio is one of worst I've seen .... AM is nothing but static ... and FM isn't much better .....

Can't help with info on replacement knobs ..... but I'd think you could by-pass Ferrari altogether and go directly to the source ... I've heard these are Becker radios.

I also have the factory radio in my 98 550, and it doesn't have any knobs. That said, I would agree with Speedball that the 550's factory radio, especially AM, is horrendous. Mostly static unless you are really close to the radio station's transmitter.

This stickyness with the interior plastics affects several models, especially the 348. Sorry I'm not much help. Just wanted to vent about the crappy radio.

turning to black sticky goo. Someone out there must have had this problem before and fixed it. Help us! I don't know what frogwo has but I have a 2000 550, if that helps.

Do not under any circumstances use armorall of any other similar type cleaner on the cheap plastics in a Ferrari. You have been warned.

We have balls of tar for radio knobs. Can they be replaced? Where do you get replacements? Can the goo be cleaned off or is there just more underneath? Come on, how has this been dealt with in the past? Obviously not with Armorall, don't even try Armorall. I am going to trust Dale on this one. He seems pretty serious about it :)

There has to be an answer besides a new stereo from Ferrari!

Replacement radios from Ferrari are outrageous. Don't even consider it. I was quoted prices of over 1000 USD for a radio that wasn't worth more than 100. Apparently, Ferrari purchased radios from different suppliers. I took mine apart after it stopped working (got it working again) and it turned out to be a Sony. This was from a 1997 550.

I have a 2000 550 in Florida. My knobs are ok so far even in this heat. Both Sony and Becker were used on 550's. The parts manual gives parts numbers for both models. I would try going direct to Sony or Becker with your stereo model to get replacement knobs.

I ordered them yesterday from you guys. Six actually (I wanted spares). The guy at Becker NA was great. If they fit, I am posting a big thank you post (and a big FU post to a certain European vendor who for now shall remain nameless - until I am sure I don't need them).

Thank you Becker. The replacement knobs were 20 cents each. Not a typo. I had to pay an extra $5 for a minimum order but bought 6 knobs for a few bucks. In comparison, here is a quote from the UK for about $60 a pair!!!!! Can you say rape! Here is the quote:

    Dear Steve

Many thanks for your kind enquiry.

Yes we can supply replacement knobs for your Ferrari for £29.50 for a pair (incl. vat). Carriage £4.50.

If you would like to go ahead please telephone me on 0870 145 3939 with payment details and delivery address.

WOW it is amazing how some people try to take advantage of someone on a 20 cent part just because it happens to go with a ferrari. Our company usually doesnt make much if any profit on parts. Most of our business is with warranty service. We have another department dedicated to AFTER warranty service on Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, and Ferrari and anything else that happened to have had a Becker in it at one time or another.

And for those of you with classic Beckers in your car we do complete restorations.
