http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6212&item=4502618369&rd=1 Look at the radio picture, and the picture of the center consol that has that funny looking box/radio thing on it. It has a microphone attached to it - I know this because my car has the EXACT same thing mounted. What looks like a knob on the drivers' side actually comes off and appears to be a microphone. WHAT is this thing. My manual says nothing about this. I do have a radio manual but I don't recall seeing anything about this kind of radio add on device.
Nice looking car! Judging from the buttons on the radio, I'd suspect it's a microphone for shortwave or SSB radio. Might be sort of fun, but you used to have to have a license for that stuff. Not sure any more.
That looks like a different install of the radio that came in my 308 as well. It's got buttons to tune in all kinds of crazy SW, LW, etc bands and that's what the little buttons are for on my radio. The microphone is for recording cassettes! You can dictate to yourself while driving. The radio cost something like $1250 installed in 1978 dollars! There's nothing in your manual about it because the cars came without radios, all were dealer installed.
Thats kind of a cute little 308. It reminds me of my first Ferrari which was only a few serial numbers away. Same color combo as well. Anyone have any history or info on it ? Regards, Bill Noon
That radio is VERY rare. The mich. is used for recording on a cassette or 8 track. There was a radio like that in Paul's Aston. On the way to visit John and his son Jullian he recorded a song for Jullian as he knew Jullian was feeling down about his parents divorce. I remember how it began: "Hey Jude..."
What is SW, LW bands?? Also, I know why the manual is empy, but I also have the OEM Radio manual but it has nothing about it.
Doesn't SW+Shortwave, and LW=Longwave? I never heard of an ability to record on cassettes while driving. I guess it could make sense. It looks to me like the mike is attached to the radio with the buttons, not the in-dash scassette player. That's why I guessed what I did .
That's correct, SW & LW were referring to Short &Long Wave broadcasts. The radio is actually way ahead of it's time, mine had 3 main bits: the head unit you saw in the dash that accepted the cassette and played it, the tuning head with the buttons (on mine that had the tuning dial rather than on the head unit as this model has) and a 3rd chunk that was presumably the power amp. Regrettably, mine didn't work but I do have the owner's manual for it with a comprehensive wiring schematic!
they " ?think? " the miles are correct? ok. why are the air intakes painted white ON THE INSIDE , look at the pic , where the oil cooler air inlet is.......? it is a very nice 77. mine is november of 1976. *20433* see profile pic.
