Is the radio space in the 328 a standard IEJ size? I want to replace the radio that was installed by the original owner when he bought the car. It looks like a standard size but I'm not sure.

I'm no longer at the cars location so I can't check anything...

    Thanks

It is, but when I put a new Alpine in mine recently it was a very tight fit. ISTR sanding the plastic surround (of the head unit) a bit to make it fit a bit easier.

The console has a cutout about a standard DIN size.

Your head unit should come with a slide mount that will fit into that opening.
My unit's slide mount had bend-out tabs that held the slide mount to the metal backed console plate.

Piece of cake, especially as the entire console comes out with two screws and three connectors for the instruments (plus a connector for the stereo).

The Alpine had been hard wired, but I put a new 8-pin connector on the car and wired the new stereo to the mating connector. Other than crimping on the new car side connector, I could do everything inside.
(I did it over winter, and had the stereo hooked up to a DC supply and some speakers in the house for a while. ;))
(Probably the only time I'll ever use the stereo's remote. :p)

Don't forget to get speakers, while you're at it.

I left the Nakamichi speakers, but the left speaker seemed to stop working the other day. When I took the cover off, flakes of the cone came out. (These speakers were in the car when I bought it 12 years ago.)
So I have to replace the speakers over the weekend. ;)

my opening in my 328 measured 7 1/2 x 2.85, If I remember correctly. I removed the molex connector from the foldy-face Kenwood that did not work. I made a block off plate for the radio hole, identical to the factory one my euro QV GTB still had in it.

I dont need a radio in a Ferrari, but i left the connector and rails there for someone else to just plug in another Kenwood if they want an easy install.

The stock connector, according to the wiring diagram, was a six pin connector for the four speaker wires, ground, and (always hot) power.

After removing the dead Alpine, I installed an eight pin "6.3 mm lug" connector (like the ones for the instruments), adding switched power and a line from the instrument lights (for the display dimmer).

The irony is that I had to order the connector kit from England, to get connector shells that matched the car. But the "6.3 mm" metal spade lug connectors themselves are just quarter-inch AMP connectors ... probably sent from the States to the UK. ;)

(I'll be using a couple of the two pin ones to connectorize my new speakers, after ripping out the hard-wired Nakamichis.)
