You may want to contact your Ferrari Service person that recently changed to another place about 80km north to the place where he worked before. He can make the direct contact.
I already talked to him about this issue.

Michael I know exactly who you mean, he is very fit & friendly. He also knows my car But I had already talked to him about the Becker update issue a while ago. He is not at all into programming and all that. At least 2 months ago he had no solution for updates. I guess just have to find someone who is fit on programming doing me the text change in Winhex as by your instructions . May be I even have to try myself (I am 100% Apple now and would have to do it on a PC)

No, you misunderstood me!
Contact him and ask about me! I own a white 599. I talked to him and offered to do the software issues for you. Just leave the original CF card and an empty San Disk Ultra CF 4GB or 8GB Card with him. I will get the card and do the changes and bring it back to him.
Please make really sure that it is a San Disk ultra CF card. Others will not work.

Safe trip back!
Just leave both cards to the Ferrari guy we know or just the San Disk with the burned image. I just want to make sure that you officially bought a version 6.0.
I will talk on Monday to him to prepare him for this and get the cards or just the San Disk card , and do the same I did for my BE 6112 to make it work on a BE6111 or BE6112.
You can decide whether you want to use DT Post for sending and receiving the card. When using DT Post I would advise you to send only the image you burned already. Put a second preregistered into to the envelope when you send it to allow the Ferrari guy to send it back.
I would like to do it this way not to bring myself up to front too much. Ok?

Today I talked to the Ferrari Service person. He is waiting for the San Disk Ultra CF card. I will fix that card. Just send it to him and I will catch the card at his office and he will send back. Sure we can meet in person somewhen.

I bought a Becker 6112 from a Ferrari 430 (I think) for my 328 GTB. Using Ubuntu I am able to copy the map. To read the original card I use:
sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=cfimage.img bs=4M

To write to a new card, I use:
sudo dd if=cfimage.img of=/dev/sdb bs=4M

However, I am only successful when I use a 4GB card. The 8GB and 16GB cards both fail. The Becker unit is able to read the data, including the magic text, but it claims the ID is not valid. I have tried many combination, e.g., upgrading to V5, using FAT32, etc., but I consistently fail with the 8GB and the 16GB and succeed with the 4GB card. Has anyone had any luck with greater than 4GB cards?

The latest version of the US map is V4 from 2008. I am looking for newer US maps and bought an original CF card for a Cadillac with Navteq map, hoping the database format would be the same. Unfortunately I am not able to read the CF card. My computer does not even recognize that a card has been inserted.

For the larger cards you probably need to make another partition. I am not sure whether the BE6112 takes cards larger than 8 GB. I know that you can downsize a 8GB card to 4GB by just burning the 4GB image on it.
It is no surprise that your GM card is not recognized by your computer. The reason is that these data are probably all on unpartioned or unpartionable spaces on the card. Car manufacturer have their own way to compress the data to avoid that you can exchange e.g. a GM CF card with a Becker Sat nav even if the sat nav is sort of the same model. OEM versions always slightly differ. So, what you need is a Hex writer/reader such as Winhex. With a trial Version you can at least see the addresses for the magictext. Other freeware Hex reader /writer programs are not so comfortable like WinHex. Check the card with WinHex and don't forget to open the software as administrator.
Hope this explains the situation !

 

And to adapt the GM CF card you need to unpack the ISO image that is on then card. Locate the maps and than copy manually into the unpacked and packed again track01.raw ISO image on the Becker card.
I think it is easier to buy a new version of the software from Becker or Here homepage. The data are always a few years old. And the currently available last version in Europe is V6. There should be an equivalent to the US maps. Since you own a BE6112 you need to modify the Magic text at EE237000 ! I would go the other way with other brands sat nav maps only if Becker doesn't provide Updates anymore. V6 will be probably the last available in Europe but who knows ?

 

Thank you for your reply, xcvb1! I am formatting all cards to 2GB, but the Becker will not take the 8GB and 16GB card, even though it will happily display the correct magic text and play mp3 files from the larger cards. I have also tried many combination, e.g., upgrading to V5, using FAT32, etc.

My computer(s) will not even acknowledge that I insert the GM card. I have tried Ubuntu, Mac and Windows. A hex writer does me no good when I cannot read any data from the card.

Unfortunately the newest US map available is V4, from 2008. I am therefore looking near and far for other manufacturers that may have maps that can be made to work with the Becker unit. Suggestions for where one might find workable US map is greatly appreciated.

 

Well, it is possible to copy other manufactures maps into the Becker system!
As far as I know : BMW Business sat nav maps, Audi MMI 2G maps and NTG1 and NTG2 by Mercedes maps can be copied to the Becker system.

i am almost sure that you need a 4GB card rather than 2 GB. But that means you have to upgrade to 5.2 or 6. but this depends on the Size of Audi, BMW or Mercedes maps in the Us. There is a splitted image named Track01 and Track02 on the card. To learn how to do it you first need to unpack the file Track01 with raw unpacker. You will see 5 Files. A lwd file contains e.g. Speedlimits etc. I think this file can have any name but the ending lwd. One file of the Track01 files starting with kn.... needs to be replaced by a Mercedes, BMW or Audi MMI 2G file with maps. Please, note that Audi , BMW and Mercedes use different names of the files and you need to copy just one of them. At this moment I don't know what file it is that you need to rename to the original Becker name. Once you are done you need to pack Track01 again e.g. With imgburn software and use Track01.raw as filename to pack everything together again. Than you delete Track01 of your original Becker software and simply replace it by the Track01 you generated with Imgburn.
