Hi, Does anyone know of a plug and play replacement for the Blaupunkt Toronto SQR 32 in my '84 400i? The OEM one has been at a repair shop for just under a year while parts for the Cassette portion are being hunted. Perhaps replacement time is coming. For example, there is currently a Blaupunkt Detroit AM/FM/Cassette on e-bay. Do the various versions all slip into the same recepticle in the car? Thanks, Greg
Greg- Any Euro DIN radio will slip right in and match the plugs- That's Blaupunkt or becker- Any modern radio can be easily adapted and the DIN sized opening will accommodate the modern outer sleeve- very easy and no mods needed to the car. Since the car is not worth a nickel more with on OEM radio it's not a sin to replace the head unit and speakers and enjoy your time in the car!
Greg If you go for a CD player as you certainly should, not all CD players will work at the steep angle the unit is installed in our cars. Check with manufacturer before buying or call Crutchfield they will be able to check several manufacturers. I ended up with a Kenwood on this basis and it works fine. Ken
Thanks for the tip. I may decide to step up to the CD. I have a slew of old casettes that the Detroit can play. We have run about 3,000 miles this summer just listening to the engine so what I install may be a moot point. Greg
