I sent my 308 clock to Nick for reconditioning and replacement of the crystal and an amazing and wonderful job he did. He not only exceeded my expectation but had it done and shipped back to me in a couple of days for a very reasonable price. Great job Nick, thanks.

Here are pictures, which really don't do it justice, of before and after:

    Nice pics,

Mine works but can't be set as the reset knob is non-operational.

I'd like to get it fixed. Can you post a little more info on your clockmeister.

    Thanks,
    Paul

I just sent mine out to Palo Alto Speedometer.

Is there a difference in price or quality?

I've had work done by PAS and it was excellent. I've had work done by Nick and it was also excellent. The price difference? Expect to pay PAS about 5x more than Nick.

Radiopilot, is there a gasket behind the glass? My gauge has a little condensation on it and was wondering if that's the problem.

There is no gasket, it's the lens against a black plastic frame, to reduce condensation I have drilled several holes above the plastic case (covered with a nylon filter fabric so dust doesn't get in) on my clock and I can say it never gets condensation, I do this with aircraft instruments to reduce fogging that aren't pressurized.

All the clocks I restore uses OPTIX lenses and are made to deter fogging, but I use an anti-fogging cleaner on the inside of the crystal just to be sure, I use FogTech anti-fogging wipes, but there are other anti-fogging solutions I know that work quite well.

The reason it fogs is the incandescent bulb, it heats the inside of the clock and therefore it condenses humidity (reason I put the series of holes in all my instruments).

Hope that clears (no pun intended) things up some.

The best idea to avoid condensation for the incandescent bulb is to swap to a LED bulb. I've done it and it works perfect.

Led bulbs work great if you can get the same lumens from the LED to light up the clear plastic ring that surrounds the clock to illuminate it, some have tried it before and it works with several 'super white LED's' but the 12V must be reduced to 3V to work and that means extra solid state components or a 12V-3V converter...

Regarding the do it yourself lens install... if you have the patience to not ruin the slim chrome ring and not damage it in the process then great... but I've seen a lot of these rings damaged beyond repair... I have several of these chrome rings for the 308 clocks in stock and they are very hard to come by... so if you don't feel comfortable removing the ring don't do it... ask all those I've repaired 308 clocks what the ring looks like in the back... you can't tell it's ever been removed (I have a special tool to remove the ring - not a screwdriver sure to cause a damaged chrome ring)...

I've seen the link posted above and see the damage to the ring... you'll see the chrome ring damage when the clock is installed on the car.

    Cheers,

    NicK

    Thanks for the reply Nick.

Yes, you're right, the special tool to remove the chromed ring is very useful and "a must have" in this case. No question.

About swapping to LED, I post a shot with the results. Perfect. I've bought the LED by Internet, 12V ready to install. The colour choosen is cool white, so the blue colour. If you want to preserve the green original colour, you must choose LED in warm white. Try it. There's a great post about it.

    Cheers

Thank you Nick, my clock rocks looks just like brand new. Now if I can only get the P/N for the LED bulb that retains the green color, TIA.:)

    Looks great Mike!

I prefer the placement of these gauges over my 79 GTB which is somewhere under my left knee.

    Mike.

I've bought the LED bulbs on eBay. You must try these ones on warm white colour. The problem is that the bulb is too large, so you have to desolder the two units at the top, and make a bridge in order to close the circuit -unless the LED will not light after the operation-. The web address:
