In the latest electronic Autosport magazine (www.autosport.com), Kimi gives an interview that actually showed emotion coming from winning the first race of the season in a new car on a new team. Raikkonen used more words in English in this interview than all the words he spoke last year.

He stated that he did not expect to win so soon. His biggest problem was the lack of radio communication with his engineer Chris Dyer. Once he maintained the first lap lead, the race went according to the down to the minute pre-race planning. By following that, he kept the lead and won the race.

"I have never hidden my joy, since the first day I came to Marenello, now after the success in the first race with the team I am - in case this is possible - even more joyful."

"On one occasion, just about 10 laps from the finish, I almost fell asleep...even without the radio I knew (the team) was saying Kimi wake up."

"When I passed the chequered flag it was really an emotional moment.....a moment I never would have missed for anything in the world."

Kimi Raikkonen has awakened. With a reliable car.........

Falling asleep at the wheel and still having strong laps....hmmm, he might want to have some red bull before the race to stay alive.

Good for him, a deserved win.

I heard that the post race team celebration was very entertaining. Big sigh of relief from Todt, Dyer, and Montezemelo. Pre race, there were many doubts behind the happy faces. Then when the trans in Massa's car failed, the feeling was it could happen to Raikkonen. It was like a bad omen when Kimi's radio failed race morning, so the win was a wet your pants kind of experience.

    From Autosport.com:
"I've never hidden my joy, since the first day I came to Maranello," Raikkonen told the official Ferrari website."

Don't think it was an interview, I think it was a blog he wrote for the Fcar website. Honestly doubt he wrote it himself :D

Prost and Senna were also reserved in their victory compared to Schumacher. I think it is Finnish reserve and perhaps some shyness which is why Kimi appears wooden while the Massas, Schumis and others of the world appear so openly joyful. Hakkinen was equally wooden as well.

Also working for a frigid Ron Dennis for so long, who isnt exactly a paragon of warmth, must have something to do with it.

I say Kimi is being honest to himself. He is a reserved guy and is acting like one. If he were to suddenly turn garullous and have a 500w smile pasted all over, it would look patently false.

I dont give a crap if Kimi smiles a lot or doesnt. He was recruited for his spectacular talent and I am glad he is seeing the results for it. He could have been a 2X champ quite easily if events had slightly changed in 2003 and 2005.

    Actually, let's revise the above to have it sound the way Kimi would had said it;

    "IhaveneverhiddenmyjoysincethefirstdayIcametoMarenellonowafterthesuccessin thefirstracewiththeteamIamincasethisispossibleevenmorejoyful."

    "Ononeoccasionjustabout10lapsfromthefinishIalmostfellasleepevenwithouttheradio IknewwassayingKimiwakeup."

    "WhenIpassedthechequeredflagitwasreallyanemotionalmomentamomentInever wouldhavemissedforanythingintheworld."

That is how he delivers English, it sounds like they forgot to tell him about commas and periods, much less exclamation points......

Anyway I agree let the driving speak for itself!

I wonder if his radio was really broken, or if the crew was saying,
"This must be on the blink -- all I can hear is a monotone mumbling sound." :p

(Kimi's interviews do sound a bit like engine noise on the radio.)

I wonder if we're finally seeing the true talent of Kimi. Give him a good car and he'll not only win but he'll dominate so easily that he has a hard time staying awake while the rest of the drivers (including the world champion Alonso) work as hard as they possibly can to keep up. It's only the first race of the season though...he probably just got lucky ;)

Not sure Alonso worked as hard as he possibly could: They all know they need to keep that engine alive for another race and that 2nd race happens to be at Sepang, hottest circuit of the year.

Alonso did a Schumacher or a Prost in Melbourne: Get 8 points safely without stressing the engine. What's the point of trying to win at all cost? You gain 2 points, but risk a DNF in the 2nd race. Sad strategy but true.

Having said that, I don't think Kimi was flat out either. These are both experienced racers who know first hand that to finish first you first must finish.

If you look closely you can see his lips move.
With more practice he'll be able to drink a glass of water and still be able to conduct the interveiw. Massa gets to be the Dummy.
