Kimi Raikkonen said he was unhappy about Lewis Hamilton's mistake during the Canadian Grand Prix, especially as it happened in the pitlane. The McLaren driver crashed into the back of the Ferrari after failing to see the red light at the end of the pitlane in time to stop. The accident damaged the cars and both men had to retire. Raikkonen accepted that everybody can make mistakes, but he was annoyed that it happened in the pitlane. "There's not much I can say. My race was ruined by Hamilton's mistake," said Raikkonen, who had crashed into the back on Adrian Sutil in Monaco two weeks ago. "Obviously, anyone can make mistakes, as I did two weeks ago in Monaco, but it's one thing to make a mistake at two hundred per hour but another to hit a car stopped at a red light. I am not angry because that doesn't achieve anything and does not change my result. "I am unhappy, because I had a great chance of winning. Once the graining had gone from the tyres, the car was going very well. "I have failed to score in these last two races and now it's time to start winning again. There is still a long way to go in the championship and it is still very close and we have everything we need to regain the ground we have lost." Felipe Massa completed a disappointing day for Ferrari, finishing in fifth position after having to pit three times due to a problem with the refueling rig during his first stop. The Brazilian admitted, however, that he was pleased to score some points which allowed him to join Hamilton in second place in the standings. "It's hard to express my feelings after a race like this," he said. "On the one hand, I am disappointed because, without my refueling problem, I could have been fighting for a place on the podium. "On the other hand, I am happy to have brought home four points at the end of a very difficult race run on a track surface that was in really poor condition. "Once I found myself at the back, I tried to climb back up again, but in the end, when I was behind Glock, I could not get past him and also I didn't want to run the risk of ending up off the track after all the trouble I'd been to to get that far. "I would like to congratulate Kubica and BMW: they worked really well and deserved this success. They are very strong, but I think we are working in the right direction, as could be seen from our performance level every day here."
What if?? I think Kimi could have taken the challenge to Lewis, McClaren dominated in the opening laps. Kimi was just starting to get into the groove and making up time, he would have gone hard out of the pits. Kimi always humble and professional. Good entertaining race, Massa overtake of the season. Congrats to BMW, it going to be another interesting season. Lewis what were you thinking, I don't think you were.
+1... What a sad, dumb mistake. Was a very interesting race, but would have been even more interesting with Kimi and Lewis in it longer.
+2 Rookie mistake, gracious of Kimi, and excellent drive by Massa. Definately the pass of the season by Massa, it showed today he knows how to pass, from someone who didn't think Massa had it.
This will all come together before Monza. Massa will continue to lead in the points, and will become WDC. Unless Ferrari continues to use malfunctioning equipment and bad judgements by team engineers. They cost Massa the WDC in 2007, I hope they give the guy a break this year, he deserves it. He drives with his heart. I may actually stop just defending him and become a Felipe fan. I am sorry Sato.
Gotta agree that the overtake by Massa was and will be one of the best of the season. It reminded me of the overtake by Rubens Barrichello back in the days when he passed by the Schumacher brothers in a very similar way.
oh please. Hitting someone in a race on a wet track is common and expected in racing. Hitting someone who is standing still at a red light is much different. Hami was just not paying attention.
did Kimi stay in Monaco to do something else stupid ? I thought he did it 2 weeks ago who are you backing Frank ?
+1 Absolutely Massa, The OVERTAKE of the season...with no TC and an impossible surface... Kimmi, had to stand back cause he ashamed himself in Monaco by doing something similar...track was wet, dirty, he was behind a much slower car... HAMILTON was ON THE PITLANE!!! WITH TWO CARS COMPLETELY STOPPED IN FRONT...was he looking in the mirror to see if he had his eyebrows straight? I think Hamilton would pass the Alcoholemy test?...I dont think he would...what a stupid mistake.
+1 Kimi was very gracious about the accident. Was hoping he would have a solid finish! Congrats to Kubica and the entire BMW team. I am always happy to see a team improve. Massa....great drive and pass!
During the race...they announced the incident was being investigated, but no news of the outcome. Anyone have any info? EDIT: Posted here...http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=200854
Everyone relax. Lewis did Ferrari a favour by not extending his lead as a result of failing to finish ahead of Kimi (as he was looking set fair to do). Accidents happen. Lewis is a prat and will need to learn to be less error prone. He will lose 10 places at the next race for this, so that again works in Ferrari's favour. We all know that Kimi is at his best when under pressure - witness last season for enough proof of that. This season has a long way to go and will be very exciting.
Kimi came out of the pits ahead of Lewis and Lewis would have had Kubica in front of him also. Kimi was finding his speed and setting fast laps. If the accident doesn't happen I see Kimi winning with Lewis in third.
Yep, I think most saw it this way. I am thinking if Lewis thought the same thing and just plowed Kimi.
+1 At least Kimi will have a really good chance to overtake Hamilton in the points at France. Keeping my fingers crossed Hamilton gets stuck behind Alonso.
Knowing how the French are, my favorite France moment was when Schumacher waved the italian flag after he won the GP in '06, right after France lost from Italy on the FIFA world cup in the finals on their own soil. It was such a classic and subtle F U.
They do seem to muck up Felipe's race an inordinate amount of times. Without the team's hindrance, he'd be leading the WDC right now. In the midst of all the Alonso rumors 3 races into the season, he has done an outstanding job. His drive in the rain at Monaco showed that he has really progressed into one of the better drivers on the grid (along with Alonso, Kimi, Lewis, and Kubica)
No way... I think Kimi would have won, Hamilton would have probably gotten Kubica at the next pit as the McLaren was pulling away from the BMW. They would have been tied for the WDC. There is NO WAY Hamilton thought "hmmm...I'll take both of us out so that we can get passed by Kubica and Massa in the standings". The Hami-hate is intense, but let's not lose our bearings. The only two drivers I've ever seen intentionally crash someone out were Senna and Schumacher. Senna was screwing his teammate over, and Schu was trying to protect his WDC lead in the last race of the season.
I think Lewis was pissed because he went from 1st to 3rd in the pits and was pressing to get out ahead of both Kimi and Kubi. He definitely needs to learn to control his emotions, although I'm thinking it's just how he's built.
