Awesome work performed here by Todd Helms of Orlando Florida on a Ferrari 458!! Read about this transformation here - http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45794&highlight=458
Sanding down a new 458 Italia...wow! If I hadn't seen how you brought back my black 550 to life after suffering white paint over-spray in a local garage I couldn't do it, but now my car is one of the best looking on the street. Those photo's are incredible too. Thanks for posting them Joe!
Thanks for the kind words Robert. Todd certainly is a detailer that has set the bar much higher than most of us have gone before. I have a similar detail (extreme paint correction/color sanding) to do soon on a BMW B7 soon.
Incredible transformation. How did that car pass final inspection at the factory? Why would the new owner take ownership?
Great question! I've had Todd work on a car for me, the end result is nothing short of amazing. Until you know the difference you can't really appreciate it. Most people would have walked up to this 458 before and thought nothing was wrong. The difference shows up in Todd's ability to take photos which accentuate the existing problems with the paint, explain the process and then take the after photos. I'm not kidding when I say that the majority do not see the difference, it would shock you to know how many cars at some of the premier concours events are at the level of this 458, very, very few. A lot of people think a fresh coat of wax will make their car into this quality of paint finish. Paint correction is the answer, not a can of $600 wax. The scary part is it only takes one (yes one!) incorrect washing to start the turn back into another pedestrian paint finish. There is a video of a fellow washing an Enzo around that would qualify as one. To see a car like this in person is like opening a can of paint and looking into it, flat, no swirls or glare, just perfect relections. It is a sight to behold. When a car like this pulls up it will take your breath away, especially in black.
I don't know about Central Jersey but there are two really well known detailers in the Boston area who I believe like Todd Helme will travel for a detail (assuming the price is right of course). One or both I know have worked with Todd and I would have to think Todd would certainly vouch for their talent. I only know their first names (Ryan and Rick). If you are interested in talking with them I can find out their contact information, they post on several detailing websites I like to read.
Thanks for the offer but I bet between having them come down to NJ and the cost of the detailing I could probably get the car repainted If you ever come across someone on your detailing sites, please let me know. Thanks!
Todd is an amazing detailer...he's more like an artist IMO. I do my own amateur detailing on my own cars and it's really hard work. I spent 12 hours buffing out my black C6 Corvette and I was wiped...I wasn't even done but I threw in the towel at that point. Only so much bending over I can take. I hope Todd charged big bucks for this...you couldn't get me to do something like that for less than $7,000. LOL. The write up is excellent, too. I'm just as impressed with that. Great graphics. RMX
Can anyone recommend a detailer who has this type of talent in Socal. I pick up my Rosso 458 in a week or two and want to have this done before the clear bra goes on. Much appreciated!, Rb
Thank you Easy888. Jason sounds like the guy to use! I'll post some pics after he is done with it and thanks again!
Robert, I am scheduled to have Jason do my CS this week. He seems to be our guys. He came to my house and previewed my car. He seems to know his stuff. I'll let you know how it goes.
Actually, a freshly painted surface would look no where near as good as a surface detailed by Todd Helme, Joe Fernandez in S. Cal, Rick and Ryan I mentioned up in the Boston area, Scott Harrelson (I think that is his last name down in Irvington, TX), David Fermani (somewhere in South Florida) and some others who are just artists when it comes to detailing. Casey Adams in Lexington, KY is very impressive also. You will see several new paint jobs that will still have some orange peel, buffer trails from the painter who may not be as skilled with a rotary as the guys above, fish eyes and other minor imperfections that most will not notice but the guys above make a living out of perfecting. Their services are certainly not for everyone but for those who do not mind paying a few thousand for perfection, they are your guys. There are some I am sure I am forgetting but those guys seem to stick out in my the most. Here is a freshly painted car that needed a detailers assistance. http://www.autopia.org/forum/pro-details-before-after/106920-fixing-bodyshop-nightmare.html I will keep my eyes open for a quality detailer in the NJ area.
I would guess most of the top detailers charge about $50 (possibly more?) an hour and Todd mentioned this took him (I think) five days so a few thousand would be my guess.
If you own a black car, using this product (in which I have zero commerical interest) is an absolute must: http://tech-shine.com/
