Gentlemen, As we have expected for some time, the success of the Cars-n-Coffee at Brier Creek has outpaced the venue. Kevin Heimbaugh from the local PCA organization had a call from the Brier Creek management folks this week to let us know they will no longer be able to host the 1st Saturday gatherings. Brier Creek has concerns about the safety and security of the show cars, the people parking and attending the show, and the other patrons who are not there for the show. They are also concerned about liability should something happen. It's in all of our best interests that we find another location. I do want to point out that the Brier Creek folks have been very gracious and also very appreciative of the support that us car guys have given them. They're not upset at anyone, the space available simply isn't large enough to handle the success of what started out as an informal get-together...so they have to ask us to find a more suitable location. I think its important to note that at this last Saturday's Cars-n-Coffee, we heard guys revving thier engines to 5-6k (a black Mustang in particular...) and we saw more than a few guys squealing tires as they left the parking area with too much speed. There was also a gentleman in a yellow 360 revving his engine to the limiter over and over. I do believe its these types of immature behavior that has contributed to Brier Creeks decision. If anyone has ideas of where we can move to, we are open to all ideas. A special "Thank You" to Kevin Heimbaugh for all of his time spent discussing the situation with Brier Creek Management...very much appreciated. Thank you all!
Not surprising. Quite a run up from the 6 of us who showed up at the first one a few years back. I wonder how the management plans to turn cars away?
I thought you were just interested in moving the FerrariChat group over there. I would think with the antics you described, moving venue is not going to change anything but give us a bad rep with every property owner in RDU.
The 300 was in jest, but, I would like enough space to keep the Ferrari, Lambo, and Porsche guys together...and the S2000 crew has always been exceptionally well behaved. If it was just the Ferrari owners, there's a million places we could land. The sad part is the moronic behavior hasn't been limited to the "other guys"...we've got some Ferrari owners we've had to discipline.
I should be back in NC for the next one, wherever it may be. Hope we find a good home...being a transplant, I can't really say for sure where other good locations are.
We had a similar situation here in Atlanta, and our initial decision was to switch the event from Saturday to Sunday, since the main complaints were coming from retail tenants whose customers had no parking until the car gathering broke up. Since the stores opened later on Sunday, this alleviated the problem for awhile. We lost some regulars who preferred going to church instead, but got others who hadn't been able to come on Saturday because of work requirements. I should point out that this worked fine for about 18 months, until we outgrew the lot regardless of the day of the week. Our current lot is at an office building which would be available either day, but we have stuck to Sunday, which works for me unless there is an early-morning Grand Prix on television.
We are also looking for an office building where the owner would agree to us meeting there. As mentioned earlier, there's also a currently abandonded outlet mall and we'll start making some phone calls. When we started this CnC back in early 2008, between the Porsche and Ferrari/Lambo guys, we had maybe 20-30 cars. We're now at 300+ (10x) and growing each month. We'll find something and most likely it will come from the most unsuspecting source... As an aside, Sunday would not work for me as I teach Sunday school and there's a fair number of young boys who's fathers are not present...what a Blessed opportunity to mentor.
I have lurked on the forum for a long time as I don't own a Ferrari. However we welcome you guys to join us in Durham where property management is even sponsoring the event (on June 30th) I hope some of you can make it out. I wonder if the old Morrisville outlets that are getting transformed would allow something? The only problem I see with office buildings is it is nice to be able to have restaurants, food, etc close by.
If we go to an office lot let's recruit all the food trailers to come there. That would provide some grub and some coffee. What do you think?
I attend a lot of Durham Bulls games. That area is very well done. Lots of little shops for food, but I'm not sure if they are typically open at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning. The Bulls have been big supporters of the area and they ensure that unruly behavior isn't tolerated. It's easy access from route 147. Only issue may be competition if the Bulls have a home game early on Saturday, but that typically isn't the case. I do think that if we decide to move our Saturday meetings to this area that we should make all of the local car groups know that there are expected rules of behavior that must be followed for the good of everyone and violators will not be welcome. I'll try to attend the June 30th event and if I do I'll report back on the forum.
Let's move the gathering out to Rocky Mount. There's plenty of room out here in the country! Seriously!
Nah, it's all in the same locale. Rocky Mount is in the Raleigh metro area. You, Todd are in the sticks!
The Bulls only have 7pm games Saturday unless a double header which is rare. There is one coffee shop that is open in there saturday and some may open for a brunch but I am not sure. Capital Broadcasting owns the deck and is helping put it on which is very nice. Thanks for planing to come check it out. We will be at the very top of the deck
T|K, I'm looking forward to checking out the Durham Coffee & Cars. But some friends have some questions. Is the parking deck "friendly" to low slung cars? Does the parking deck have a fee? How is the coffee and pastries being handled? One of Durham's famous food trucks? Or at nearby stores? Restrooms are available? Does the event have a web site? See you on the 30th.
Hey all, Im partially responsible for putting this on, so I'll try to answer all questions accordingly and give you guys an idea on what we are doing. -No fee for parking or entering the deck -no speedbumps in the parking deck, but I will advise angle'd approaches to the upslopes to the next levels, as a precaution. -Coffee and pastries will be availabe on the top deck where everyone is parking -Restrooms will be available at the dealership across the street, where I work. From 8am-9am you can enter in at the Car Rental/Service department for restroom use, and from 9am forward you can enter in through the showroom if needed. Just a quick elevator ride up/down to get back and forth. No website yet, its named 'Coffee & Cars' because as of right now I need to see if the original Cars & Coffee is trademarked and get that work out. Can't wait to see everyone out there! Tim
I've been there. If you are in a Ferrari or another 4" height car, I advise you to pass. You WILL LEAVE PAINT on those ramps. Ask me how I know.
