Ralf Schumacher Admits to Making Up Future F1 Drive Claims

While Ralf Schumacher has now officially landed himself a new gig driving in Germany’s DTM sports car series. It wasn’t that long ago that he was assuring the media that he would definitely remain in Formula One for 2008.

Schumacher has now come forward with a rather late to the table, and quite strange, claim that he made the F1 promise up. Ralf was never really confident that he would have a 2008 drive; in fact, he says that he only made those statements so he could have a peaceful end to his season at Toyota last year.

“I just said that (I would remain in F1) because there were a lot of people talking, and the situation was difficult at Toyota, so I just wanted to finish the season in peace,” said Schumacher.

The DTM driver also made it known that his tests for Force India were never part of a plan on his part to drive for the team, but rather a “favor” to team owner Vijay Mallya. Said Schumacher, “I did test over the winter, but that was just something for a friend.”
