Went to show in Atlanta, but didn't peruse through the book. Johnny Depp on cover of Vanity Fair. I subscribe -- great articles.
Have not been in person, but I did see the article. Just my .02, but the whole place looks pretty sparse. The cars a beautiful, but they are presented like Fabrage eggs, with no visual ability to move off of their little plinths. They seem more like paintings hung in a gallery, than the raucous, powerful machines that they once were.
I saw the collection back in '03 or '04 when it was at the Boston MFA. Just sitting there in the gallery, those cars looked plenty powerful and aggressive. I sat in front of the McLaren F1 for 45 minutes alone.
VIDEO : 48 minutes long. Some good clips of the cars. A glimpse of Paul Russell's restoration workshop. Ralph Lauren driving McLaren F1. (SIZE 403 mb). http://rapidshare.com/files/436380048/Speed_Beauty_Style_Ralph_Lauren_Car_Collection.flv
I have the book and saw the TV special several times. Can't bring myself to buy the elitist VF rag, though....
If that is the picture in Vanity Fair, then I am sort of disappointed. This picture has been spread around the net for years.
