Random Thoughts on Braking

Years ago I attended Daytona Speed Week. During a practice for GT [GTP?] prototypes I made my way to the end of a long straight that ended in a hard right turn where I was leaning hard up against the fence. First I timed certain cars to see which were faster.

Then I timed how long their brake lights were on and compared that to previous results. The faster cars were on the brakes for two seconds. The slower cars were on the brakes for three seconds. Then I considered the faster cars came into the corner with more down force. That complicated the proposition but made things clear. BRAKING is where its at.
