It is time to go away from an old ammo can, and get a range bag. Anyone have any suggestions? Most likely for two pistols, 4 mags, small cleaning kit, small toolset, eye and ear protection. Although, I could hang the muffs over the bag.

For a small bag (1-3 pistols), I've always used camera bags. The loops and partitions work well for more than bodies, lenses, and film canisters (dating myself there).
These days, I'll even use a small "overnight" bag for toiletries , if I'm just taking a couple.

For "big days" with a few pistols and a carbine/SBR or 3, I'll use either of two soft travel bags with pockets, but never anything that might indicate "guns inside".

Several to choose from. Voodoo Tactical has some nice stuff. Blackhawk, etc. Check out Ebay or go to a gun show.

I bought the 5.11 Moab6 at Quartermaster for now. Not what I wanted, but it looks like it can do the trick. I also checked out the messenger bag, but that makes you look like a tactical dooshbag. The downtown LA store was pretty much picked clean, it was mostly gear for security guards, not LEO/Mil. I grabbed a Smith and Wesson folder "first responder" to clip on the bag as well.
