Yesterday had a great time at the annual Ranger, Texas Fly-in and Air Show. This is the 3rd year they've done it and I've gone each year. It has grown and grown. Close to 100 fly-in planes and 5 aerobatic performances.

Ranger is an old old field with tons of history. Amelia Earnhardt flew through here and the original larger hangar where everyone ate has original brick floor in back.

Coolest and first for me was picking up Tillman from his front door in the plane! Paved 2500' private runway, taxi down the streets, and pull up in front.

I had seen most of these performers before, the highlight for me was a 5 minute full aerobatic performance by David Martin in a Clipped-wing Cub completely with the engine out all the way to landing and parking. I never saw Bob Hoover perform, so I guess this is close as I will get.

Jason Newburg in the Viper Pitts is always great, but his 400' severe slip to landing was awesome.

First video is a SNJ-5 'Texan' taxi, take off, and fly by. 1 minute.

Second video is a short clip from each performer including David Martin's engine out landing and parking. 3 minutes.

Nice! Tillman's community (Tim L as well) is really cool. I still need to call to find out the asking price on those lots...

    Amelia Earnhardt?? Gee, I didn't know that she was Dale's ancestor!! :D :D :D

Seriously, though, I like little airshows like this. The intimacy and relative quiet (except when the T-6 flies by!) are in stark contrast to the big military shows that feature the jet teams.
