I don't come on here an rant very often, but I just have to this time... My youngest daughter started two weeks ago at Oklahoma State, after graduating from the American School of Kuwait (ASK). After starting her classes, we get notified that she will not be considered a 'Resident', and therefore must pay the non-resident rate (which is about three times higher per credit hour). WTF??? I was born in Oklahoma. My wife was born in Oklahoma. Hell, Emily (the youngest) was born in Stillwater, where Oklahoma State is located. I own property only 35 miles away, pay State taxes, have a vehicle that I keep there, with Oklahoma tags, am a registered voter, have an Oklahoma Driver's License, etc. Same is true for my wife... So, I call the Registrar's office and ask "If I'm not an Oklahoma State Resident, what state AM I a resident of?" After much discussion, they ask me to email proof of ALL the above... Copies of tax returns for the last three years, scan of our Voter's Registration cards, driver's licenses, property tax receipts, etc., etc., etc.... Apparently, someone, somewhere, has to look it over and decide whether or not my daughter qualifies for in-state tuition and can be considered a 'resident' of the State of Oklahoma, since she graduated from a high school out of the state... Yesterday, we just heard from the college, and THANKFULLY they've decided to consider her a resident... Jeez...what an ordeal... but, all is well, now.... /RANT Mike
They know all you Q-Waities are rich! seriously, we had a hell of a time with that during a move from NC to SC. Could not get instate tuition in SC even after proof of living here >1 year; finally resolved.
Glad for ya Mike. Kudos for fighting and winning the good fight. Goes to show you, NEVER let the B-tards get ya down. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really, really don't understand... Their website for paying tuition is only 'open' (available) during business hours? Seriously... what's up with that? I think, from my discussions with the registrar's office that they may be.... uhhh... a little slow on the uptake... you know, a 25-caliber in a 45-caliber world... Mike
All you had to say was Oklahoma and I would understand. You think that's bad? Try working for any of the Indian Nations.
Hey, just call Boone, he'll set them straight. OSU is a great school. Too bad about the confusion, though. Family grew up in Paul's Valley
I think as long as you have a mailbox on that property, you are golden.... They were just working off her High School Diploma. That's HILARIOUS the website is only open "business hours" THAT has to be a first......"Five o'clock time to go, turn of the Internet..."
Family is from Shawnee...I looked at going to OBU in Shawnee, but the resident/out of state was killer 15 years ago even...
Do you know FChatter "RobertinOK"?? A 512Boxer owner, and he builds these cool custom guitar amps out of fine woods........be a good guy to call to throw Bail or something....in Stillwater. He hasn't posted much, since he did his engine service......by hand...under a tree.....
Those amps he makes look badazz.........just that worldwide Fchat network..... Found it...."Palette Amps"
Also, try telling ANY Oklahoman' they should be like Texas and not pay any state income tax. You will get an earful about how Oklahoma uses that tax money to improve its residence's lives and they usually are pretty detailed about where the money goes. P.S. Oklahoma is OK.
How does she look in a white sundress and cowboy boots?? That seemed to be the UT coed uniform, at the Rice game last weekend......hat optional, bored look mandatory.
Alan, it's Orange ALL DAY at OK State... I think the bored look is well-practiced and available 24-7. Mike
My lovely first wife actually attended OSU in Stillwater...had a great time, what of it she remembers.....
I wore my Rice Football jersey (I purchased at the Campus Bookstore, LOL!), and was treated with proper deference..... It was fun!
Ouch! I pay out of state tuition for Arizona State University, one of the reasons I tried to move back home my freshman year. I was going to go back to Texas, go to community college for two years (much cheaper) get my core classes out of the way and transfer to University of Texas. My parents wouldn't let me move back I tried to get residency here, but since I am a full-time student, I didn't work, and the office here told me that I needed to have 2 years of taxes and a bunch of other documents, I even have grandparents and aunts and uncles here, and they wouldn't help me out.
Hey Mike, You know I am here in Oklahoma. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know. I am not, however, a Oklahoma resident since I am here with the military. I personally happen to think that Oklahoma wastes a LOT of its money - the roads here are the worst I have found in the nation (although I understand that NJ is pretty bad - never really been there though), yet we have to pay stupidly high "tolls" on freaking Federally funded INTERSTATES!! You have no idea how badly that pisses me off, but thats another topic. My opinion - Texas wins in the how you spend your money department. I used to live in Texas so I have experience there to back that up. PDG
