As I was pulling out of the driveway this morning, a cop car was parking in front of my house. Unusual. The cops got out and started walking towards me, so I rolled down the window. "Do you own a silver Ford F150?". Yes. "Do you know where it is right now?". Yes, a few blocks away at my sons friends house. "It's been broken into, can you follow us over there?". Nice.

Window smashed, stereo gone, subwoofer gone. My son was nearly in tears. He's not proud of the truck, but is extremely proud of the stereo and is well known for it at school. Everybody knows that stereo. Shawn tweaked the amp on the sub last Summer and it was even better (louder) per the kids.

The thieves hit 10 cars in the neighborhood last night. As I was leaving the scene, a Toyota Sequoia around the corner had all 5 doors standing open. Little kids backpacks in the cargo area. The SOB's aren't picky.

I guess I'll be buying a window and a new stereo now. :(

Hopefully at least 1 Camera was installed and functioning

It's a very, very, very big club he just joined. Some of us have even reenlisted a few times.

No camera, truck is 15 years old and is our 'beater'. Stereo wasn't worth that much, but he was proud of it.

Just last week, I had the wheels stolen from my beater truck.

It's an old '93 Silverado. The older 5x5" lugs, not the newer 6 lugs. Difficult to find on the used market these days. Took me a week to find em and finally got em back on last night. Yesterday I noticed the dumbasses tried to break into the truck, and failed, chipping the window. It was unlocked. =(

I still have an account at the local 12v distributors. Let me know when you are ready we will build him something bigger and better. (If you want me to I will put an alarm in it for him ). I will do it for cost of the equipment. He is to good of a kid to have that happen to him. Just let me know, I am here for you.

Midyear last year two trucks down the street got hit. All 4 wheels taken on both trucks.

Pretty easy to guess it was the work of the home builders or their associates. A range from hwy 290 to near i45 was discovered later in the year to be their area.

Last October my neighbor went out of town left his HD 4X4 Dodge parked in the driveway, I didn't notice anything unusual until he got back into town & started it. Seems during that time his catalytic converter was removed, repair bill ran about $5000+ & has had me concerned about my beater Tundra.

Sorry about your son's stereo system, when I was his age I went through the same thing with my Camaro & BMW. When I got my Integra I just left the radio stock from then on, not worth the headache.

I think NBC5 is going to have a report on the thefts in your area tonight Jim.

One of the first thing I did was have Shawn put an alarm on my Tundra, I highly recommend his skills & knowledge to any FChatters needing alarm or stereo systems.

It really is too bad booby traps aren't legal. I knew an Angel who had a stick of dynamite under the seat of his Harley. Seemed OK to me.

Two sets of locking lugs either side. Just one per wheel, but R and L are not matching side to side.
Spares, tailgates and cats popular. Depending on sophistication, they'll steal matching door so no paint needed.
Acuras get stolen for the motors, stereos get left.
I think stereos need a deafening screech wired in so when it's disconnected, and not disarmed, it'll deafen the bastards. 150dB at 3-5kHz would work swell. Will also piss off all the dogs in neighborhood. :) Just sayin'

Got a call today. My wakeboard boat was at a local boat dealer ( fenced in area) getting a fuel pump replaced .
Long story short, druggies broke into the lot ( which was fenced in ) and ripped boat apart stealing the stereo. Repair shop got the bid to fix and replace- $9000 They also informed me that they have a sign that says they not responsible for theft and that I would be responsible...
Thoughts? Surely they carry an umbrella policy to cover burglaries.

Sorry, but you're probably out of luck on this one.
Their umbrella likely covers fire damage, or something relatively within their control, but these meth-heads circumventing the perimeter and trashing your boat may not very well be part of the plan.

We'll replace everything, but doubtful we'll do it with as much "boom" as it used to have. My youngest is driving the truck now and will be done with it in 18 months. At that point the truck reverts back to Dad as a driveway decoration and occasional hauler. I have no desire for a gnarly stereo, and would prefer to get my backseat back in place instead of having a monster sub.

    $200 for the new window....
