Am I doing this wrong? Posted about 3 minutes ago in the general section looking for advise on a comparable Ferrari to a Porsche RS America. Within 10 seconds (no lie) it was moved to off topic.

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91565

If you read my posts, you will find that I almost always post in the technical section, almost always in an attempt to be helpful to other Ferrari owners.

This time I needed a little help in a comparable and it wasn't even reviewed.

Is it becasue I am not subscribed?

I cannot tell you many times I have read on this forum the countless comparisons to Porsches made by F car owners, as well as satisfied Porsche owners singing the virtues of their cars. All I wanted was a little advice on a car I was adding to my stable, and it immediatley got bumped out of general discussion (highest likelyhood of being viewed) to "off topic" or better described as "the basement". (I certainly could have posted on Rennlist, but I am not looking for a cheerleading section).

What I have done wrong? I've not referenced low carb ice cream or big breasted women in my post that seem to generate the largest response in the "general" section. Nor have I agonized over how to match my garage floor with my odometer cable color. I try to keep the topic relative to cars.

I have a high regard for Ferrari owners and in general like all sports car enthusiasts. Been around them all my life, and I like the opinion of peers.

Just want to know what the secret handshake is so in the future I will know how to word my threads (which may be none from this point forward).

    Rant over.

Porsche specific stuff goes into Off-topic>Cars, Motorcycles, etc. It's not the basement, it's just where it goes. FWIW, Lambo's go into Off-topic too, Off-topic>Lamborghini.chat.

    Rod -

It is unclear to me why so are so pissed off that you feel a need to rant publicly. I had clearly noted - as I always do with any post of this sort - the fact that it has been moved to the appropriate section of this board by me . You could have PM'd me with your question, or why you feel it should have remained where it was. However, since you feel the need to publicly "rant," I am happy to publicly respond.

The move has nothing to do with you, the quality of your post, or your subscription level. It has to do with maintaining the integrity of the content of this site. Your post was essentially asking for opinions from Ferrari owners on a non-Ferrari car. It is done all the time. But the right place for this is in the Cars forum within the Off-Topic section. It is _not_ the Ferrari Discusson forum within General. The fact that was moved so quickly was just coincidence that I happened to be viewing the threads then. I moved a few other threads at the same time.

I am sorry you feel Off-Topic is equivalent to the "basement." Personally, I think a number of influential members visit that section. As you can see, WCH provided you with an excellent response. I am sure there will be others. Unfortunately, looking for "maximum visibility" is not a valid reason in and of itself to allow a thread to remain in General.

Again, nothing personal. But it is important that content be moved to the most appropriate section. Can't say that we're always perfect at it, but we try.

    Good luck with your search.

    Best.

Out of respect for Rod - and to serve as a helpful reminder to others - this will stay here.

Vic, thank you for the gesture. Perhaps the confusion is mine, in that countless times I have viewed the "Lotus vs Ferrari" or the "Alfa Vs Dino" or the "Trebant Vs Enzo" threads and I have noticed the numerous responses either for or against any particlur brand or model. Many Ferrari owners have chimed in on these threads with comments such as "although the Trebant was originally paper mache' and had a two cylender engine, its handling charaterstics were similiar to the Enzo on a lot of levels". I was hoping for similiar comparisons here.

I had considered labeling the the thread "RSA versus 360 Challenge" and then witnessed countless bytes wasted in flaming the Porshce, but saw no value in that either.

You are correct in that it was a coincidence that you happened to view the thread right after I posted it, and I apologize publicly and will do so in a PM. I did not mean to denegrate your judgement in any way, I was just a little frustrated that it happened so quickly.

A thousand apologies. BTW, is it not 12:47PM in the other half of the US? Get some sleep.

No worries Rod. Appreciate the PM - that was very kind of you. We look forward to your continued contributions. Please let me know if you don't get an appropriate set of responses to your original post.

Seems like a super car. Good luck with the decision.

This was a conversation between two individuals. Nothing further to add here. Thread closed.
