The thread on the fog/ "frog" lights as an option (which I still don't think are factory) got me thinking about some of the options offered from the factory. Some of the options offered were:

    front bumpers in resin
    rear bumpers in resin
    hydraulic "comando" clutch
    front mudguards (left/right)
    rear mudguards (left/right)
    protection for oil pan
    roll bar
some type of steering option (not sure what it is)

Does anyone have photo's or any of these options or at least know of any Dino that had these options fitted?

Shawn, as we figured out, fog lights were fitted by the dealerships.
roll bar was only for racing I guess..
of the rest I never heard...

Are you shure it was only dealer driven? Almost ALL of the very late Dino's had them.

Those are definitely hard to come by, but we have pictures of them. I have never seen pictures of the original post listing. This list comes from an insert in the parts manual.

Mine came with something I've never seen on another Dino. It was a foot rest in the passenger area. It was hinged so you could rotate it up under the front of seat if you had longer legs.

It was chrome with a long horizontal rubber pad for your feet to rest.

Has anyone else seen something like this before?

Not specifically, but it seemed to be a Euro/Mainly UK option during the regular production, but a very large number of late 74 Dino's have the bars that are US spec. I own a 74 through Chinneti (no bar) and a 74 through MCM (no bar). That being said, look at the last 100 or so Dino's made, it is crazy how many of these cars have that dumb bar. Don't know if it is just me wondering crazy things, but the percentage of late 74 cars I have seen come up for sale over the years have the bar. I know that doesn't substantiate anything, but then again Dino side mirrors were only dealer installed until a good number of photo's of Dino's pre-delivery with mirrors surfaced.

    very interesting...
regarding european models I can tell you there is no specific pattern if it comes to nose bars. We know Maranello Concessionares offered the bar in the UK. I know of a Swiss E-serie and a German M-serie delivery with nose a bar and in both countries this feature was the excepting....
Maybe with rising safety standards in the US the nose bar became a must have to register the car or very late Dinos, but I personally don`t think so...
Was there any change of law in the states regarding safty standards?

Not that I'm aware of. Late US Dinos (with the newer grille and front pan air vents) had "outrigger" bumpers, front and rear, on dual horizontal struts. They were somewhat farther away from the body, but still very vulnerable. The US had a temporary exemption in 1974 from the 5-mph bumper standard, but only for two seaters. This allowed cars like the FIAT 124 Spyder and X1/9 to have rather small bumpers. For 1975, when the exemption had expired, imported two-seaters went with ungainly large bumpers. The most egregious example of this was the rubber-bumper MGB, which even had to have its ride height raised. The nose bar was a weak attempt (no pun intended) to prevent body damage in parking lot incidents, but had no inherent safety advantage. If anything, were a Dino so equipped to be hit in the front, the bar would likely cause more damage as it was pushed into the header panel above the grille! Fred

I agree Fred, I used to have such a MGB many years ago and reconverted it to chrome bumpers :)

i own 08468, the 25th to last Dino to be made. It was delivered in Hollywood pretty quickly.

The explanation about the impending '75 rules coming into play do make since. Dave (Dn_m_stuff) has previously stated his car wasn't delivered until 75 (maybe I am crazy, but pretty sure).

Maybe the late bars on athe late US spec Dino's were applied for cars delivered after the 1974 calender year. With all the oil problems and economy problems driven off of OPEC issues and how to interpret the rules, I could easily see Ferrari (North America) fitting these bars to make due.

I wish I had kept track of the last Dino's and which have the bars, but very few Dino owners that have the LAST cars have posted here. Almost all of them that have come up for sale have them. In the US spec form, there is obviously a change in the not having a bar vs. having a bar, maybe delivery time could be the answer.

    Aloha...
Here's a photo of my 206 GT in Italy when Jim Sweeny bought it in 1974....note the front bumper cross bar....I still have it...when I removed it the holes seemed to be chrome plated
after they were drilled, as there was no sharp edges.
    I think it came stock..

'another angle on The Bar! Very interesting, indeed.
That's a classic photo, Gregg. Did it come with your Dino? As I recall, you have other documentation of your car's history, too. That's so cool.
Hey, we need another fix...more shots from paradise, please!

I ran into Jim Sweeny in Woodinville, WA at Betz Winery (in an area bustling with small boutique wineries just outside of Seattle) about a year and a half ago. He came up and asked me about my Dino and he told me that he had owned two - he mentioned that one was now in Hawaii. I asked him if he meant Gregg's car, and he stared at me and replied "YES - how did you know?" I told him - "Ferrarichat," of course! Jim lives in Rancho something or other, California. I run into his son and daughter-in-law periodically in and around the Seattle area.

Very smart to use protective tape to cover the trailing edges of the wheelwells. Fred
