Came across this video the other day and heard Scott Chivers aka Ratarossa confirm he's rebuilding an actual F40 with LM parts. Will be fascinating to find out which car he has bought for the basis of the project
Mods - why was this moved? The car is a genuine F40, and he is using genuine F40 parts. Nothing about this is a recreation or a rebody - it's a restoration
I'm not sure Marcel, I spoke with Scott recently - he confirmed it to be a genuine car but didn't share VIN with me. He is in possession of a V5C and it is registered as a Ferrari F40 - it's the real deal.
Have to agree with Marcel here without a chassis number the V5 can say what ever. I’ve known kits cars that slipped through the net and ended up being registered with Ferrari as the manufacturer. If he won’t let anyone know the chassis number then something is a miss. Marcel I’m sure has the histories of all of the F40’s
He didn't tell me because I didn't ask - but I know it to be real. I'll remind you of this in a few months
I love his 512 BBi restoration. I think he's very likeable and a real tifoso. I'm looking forward to this F40 build!
This is not an F40 and Mike will not try to deceive anyone that this is anything more than a one-off creation of his own making. As a matter of fact the body is sitting on a chassis table because he is planning on creating his own custom chassis. He was able to purchase original F40 body panels to base the car. I'm sure that it will be an interesting build. If you haven't seen it, check out his (was) 308GTB build. https://www.youtube. com/watch?v=0WlRQT0b4ck&list=PL6DwhCwB8M-FIWcfKjKFz3VtNutoTZNpO Well over 150 episodes, but I warn you, it's running a Honda engine!
completely disagree with you. He was insufferable on that initial video with the amount of times he said “this is a real f40…on a tube chassis we make”. It’s not a real f40. Putting a few Shelby parts on an Ace doesn’t make it a Shelby cobra. He’s directly trying to build credibility by repeating that statement and frankly it’s embarrassing.
Thanks for getting it. Some folks take a sentence here or there and then put on their blinders and ignore the rest of the video or any additional context. I know I don't have what most would consider real F40 and it won't ever be what most consider to be a real F40. People want a chassis and a VIN. I don't have either of those, and I don't care about those things. If other people want to police what I call the car, that's their problem, not mine. It's youtube, relax. I also clarified exactly what I'm building in the episode and made it super clear I don't have anything other than a body. "Directly trying to build credibility" man I don't need credibility from Ferrari's crappy chassis. I have a real body, it's all I want from the real thing anyway. The rest of the car is an antique. I get it... some folks get really defensive about cars they'll never own, and if someone else like me threatens the credibility or sanctity of those cars, it's an attack on their identity. But rest assured, I spent the entire end of the episode explaining why I don't want the rest of the original car, the philosophy behind what I am building, and that what I have is, and I quote, "real enough for me." I'll touch upon it more in my next episode, and I'd say tune in to watch it, but I'd probably you just rather not. You seem like the insufferable one.

Well here go the disputes over pedigree again. People insist on pure breed dogs and cars with listed VINs. Funny when their possessions have a better pedigree than the owners. I have several friends that own verified Ferrari F40s, Classiche Certified. I also have a friend (known here) that took a salvaged F40 chassis and rebuilt it to F40LM specs. I don't need to tell you about the horror of that build or what it did to his reputation here. What I do know is that these individuals enjoy owning and driving their cars to the fullest! Mike is not trying to hide the fact that this car is not from the factory. In fact, he is embracing his creativity and not ruining an existing chassis to do so. How many V12 Ferraris had to die so some clod could turn out a 250GTO that he claimed was original, just couldn't clarify the chassis no. Mike's goal is to create a one-off version of a modern F40, using techniques and technology that has improved over the last 40 years. A one-off F40, built on his tube chassis, an F40, ressurected to LM specs, and an F40, Classiche Certified, driven regularly are all in the "spirit" of Enzo Ferrari. If it weren't for that "spirit" we might all be driving incredibly expensive Alfa Romeos.
The Stanceworks build will be amazing for sure. I wish I had a fraction of Mike's skills. What the 308 was transformed into is a beautiful, performance machine, and I would give my left nut to wring it's neck around a race track. With the F40, it’s Youtube, and I guess "I am building my own car using genuine F40 body parts" is a bit wordy for a title, and Ferrari lovers with their nose out of joint would only be a small percentage of the desired audience anyway. I assumed it would never have a Ferrari badge on it, and that the “real F40” claim was to bait Ferrari into a legal threat, which would then be used to get publicity for the channel?? Or is that just too cynical of me? I am keen to see what engine will be used.
Well Ratarossa just made his feelings clear. and still a ways off till we see full episodes of the F40.
Scott confirmed in his latest video it’s a genuine F40, and shows the books - I have hats for both of you to eat, whenever you’re ready
