Be careful cleaning that up. Spray the droppings with Lysol and wait 15 minutes before you do anything.
That's nasty, but not the worst that I have ever seen. I worked on a car that I removed a full garbage bag of nesting material from the front trunk section and it still had one live rat (that went on a 80mph test drive in car). They also like to munch on various plastic and rubber parts, especially wiring harnesses. Clean all of the droppings and urine from the engine before firing it up, or it gets baked on and will smell bad forever. Almost as bad a working on a car infested with black widow spiders.
I had a lil varmit chew through the high pressure line on my 911. $180 part, $3800 in labor to drop the front end as the line was rigid. hahaha. I now have a monthly ritual to soak small bits of dish sponges soaked in peppermint oil ( I guess they hate it) and I bought a couple electric mouse zappers. The zappers have the best kill rate of anything I have found. I live in the country and the mouse prefer German food over Italian....go figure.
Had the same experience with one of my cars. The mice had built a nest in same area. We had just moved into our new home and it was as if the lil guys were waiting for a warm home and whats better than the engine compartment of a car in a cold garage. We now have it climate controlled and wall mounted live traps. 9yrs since, no problems.
Sucks.. I have in my garage, they are small trays with glue that you put up against the wall. I have a problem with chipmunks.. but I did get a mouse the other day..
I will post a pic of the live traps when We get back in town Friday. They do not use glue or any other torturous means. Very hippy / humane, tree huggin, respect all life, etc.
(Home made) 27” tall Remove bottom cap Bait w pnut btr cracker Mouse crawls up carpet toward scent then happily drops in. Mouse cannot jump out because of vertical distance.
I've done similar with a 5 gal bucket with seed in the bottom of the bucket. Simply put a board going from the ground to the rim of the bucket and they climb aboard and drop down.
Yes, peppermint oil works on mice, spiders, all kinds of pests. The smell burns their sinuses. Cayanne pepper also works to send mice away. Finding their entry and stuffing it with steel wool keeps them from getting back in. I got a mouse infestation in an old apartment, I only ended up killing 1, the rest I was able to send away or get rid of humanely using natural solutions.
