    Folks,
I want to see if I can tap into the amazing wisdom of this group re an issue on my 04 575m F1. It has a funny rattle sound at 2500-3000 rpm. The noise isn't super loud, but sounds like a dump truck.

At first, we thought it was a loose heat shield, but after securing all of them, the noise is still there. Here is what my mechanic had to say:

I ran the car up on the lift and was able with some careful listening able to isolate it to the bell housing area. If your not familiar it is where the clutch and flywheel are located. It sounds like it is inside that bell housing. Without pulling the entire drive line out of the car and inspecting the parts in there I can’t really isolate it more than that. It is an annoying sound but right now does not seem to affect the car in any way. So my suggestion is to drive it this summer after fixing the gas tank valve and unless it gets worse we can deal with it when it time to do a clutch.

Any thoughts on this issue and what the cause may be?

    Thanks!
    Steve

Is it only a sound? Or do you also feel a vibration? Are you able to test more specifically when it happens? For example if it happens under acceleration or holding steady rpms? If you hold it at 2500rpms does it rattle nonstop until you get out of that range? Does it happen on any gear? Does it sometimes happen, or every single time?

In my experience the most common source of rattling in the bell housing is caused by the Flywheel, either from getting worn or perhaps even a slightly loose bolt.

Let us know more info if you can.

    Thanks!

When I first got the car in December, I noticed the rattle during a 20-min drive before I put the car in storage for the winter. At the time, I noticed the noise, but no vibration. I will get the car back in the middle of next week and will provide some additional info once I've had a bit more time with it.
