    hey guys -

so purchased this 458 a few weeks ago and everything was fine. these last few days ive noticed that once ive been driving for about 15-20 minutes there is some rattling that comes from the dashboard. ive attached a video. you can hear it lightly on camera about 10 seconds in after I make the turn.

does anyone know what it can be?

Sounds like when you have race seats and the seat belts start tapping against the carbon fiber. The you connect the seat belt to the latch across the seat...

Ask a passenger to sit with you and have them put pressure on various components in the car as you hear it. That should help you get to the source and let us know what you come up with.

I have the same issue. Sounds like a windshield wiper hitting the windshield? It comes and goes so I can never pin point where it's at.

The 458 fit and finish is quite crappy specially if you compare it with the cheaper Porsche.
But when you drive it hard you forget about all that.
Go to your dealer and let them identify and fix it. Some other strange noise is bound to spear later though...

I had the same sound coming from the set belt buckles (having the cf race seats) I covered them with some soft fabric and it disappeared. Did you solve it, otherwise I can take a pic of what I mean?

I had the same issue. It is difficult to locate the sound since it is intermittent. I thought it was from the dash, then the seat, then the center console. I emptied out the glove box. I asked my service center to solve it. They could not.
I even thought it might be from the HVAC console.

    I’ve just accepted the imperfection.

But, then I happen to be looking at the brake pedal and got my head down under there and while looking around I spotted a silver bolt which had a washer that was loose due to the fact that the bolt wasn’t secure.

I tried to tighten down the offending bolt but it would not tighten any further. So I decided to loosen the bolt and remove it, In order to remove the loose rattling metal washer. Then I screwed down the bolt again. Again the bolt would not fasten flush but there is another identical bolt and washer located an inch over which is properly fastened tight and securing the same part.

No more noise! Very happy too.

I am almost 100% sure that the dashboard or trim panels have been removed and reinstalled for some reason. It could have been anything. Literally anything. However, there is what sounds like a trim screw or clip is bouncing around back there. I reserve the right to be wrong, only because I am not in the car - specifically in the passenger seat - but if it is coming from the dash and not behind you or the door panel or the seat belts or harnessing. It’s a loose clip or screw.

The silver bolt on my car was under the lower part of the dash.

Difficult to get your gear up under there. To see it.

One of my friends had an issue similar to this. They isolated it to the passenger A-pillar. Apparently one of the spot welds came loose and was causing a clicking noise. Unfortunately the whole right side of the dash has to come apart to find out where it's really coming from but this definitely could be the cause of this noise.

Trying stabilizing your rearview mirror glass with your finger when it happens. Took over a year but finally isolated my rattle to the glass. Just something easy to check if you haven't already.

I nearly went mad trying to find the source of noisy mechanical rattling in the dash of my '88 328 GTS. In doing searches, found that for one car, not a Ferrari, the cause was worn out/loose rubber bushings in the sway bar links. In getting my car on a lift, and examining for same, found my links were ok, but there were several control arm bolts that were slightly loose. You could see faint telltale residue coming out of the edges of the bushings, almost looked like rust. Tried and tightened every bolt on control arms and shocks and sway bar mounts and some were a couple of turns loose! Test drove the car and the rattles were gone. Not sure if that's your problem, but it's one place to look for sure!
