I have a Raw gas smell from air intake metering plate box. I have not driven the car for a month, but every few days, the garage will reek of raw gas and then go away for a few days. What is causing it to come and go if the car hasn't been moved. It has never done this before.

Mine always smells like gas, that's part of the allure of ownership! I also had a leaking three way valve, looked like a check valve, that was located between the tank and the fuel filter that started leaking. I couldnt find a replacement from any of the reputable sources so I just bypassed it. The strong gas smell went away, but not entirely.

As amusing as the "smell" of old cars (or Harleys) may be to discuss, the reality is that they didn't smell like gas when they were new. ;)

Heck, since everybody smoked back then, there would have been garages exploding left and right! :)

^^ agree with Mike on this.
I have a Euro QV that sits for months at a time in a heated garage and never a gas smell..

Would think it normal however for carbed cars. :)

And old Harleys. I have owned my Harley since new and can't remember a time when it didn't smell. Pressure builds in the fuel tanks such that I have to shut the fuel off at the supply when I turn off the bike else it may force gas out the carb overflow. :):)

Have you noticed the sump oil level increasing or does it misfire at times ?

Carbed cars didn't smell like gas unless there was a leak somewhere. Same with fuel injected cars. ;)

I have an 85' QV and it doesn't smell like gas at all. If it ever starts, I will tear it apart to find the source.

A friend of mine had this diaphragm fail, he was getting full fuel on 1 injector and it was bringing the sump
    level up, plus misfiring

No Misfiring, oil level seems normal and doesn't smell of gas. I noticed there are a lot of systems that include fuel and not sure where to start. It's not necessarily the air intake. I noticed there are 5 hoses coming off just the right fuel tank alone. There are 5 fuel systems that could be causing it. Evaporative system, fuel supply system, fuel injection system, and air blow by. I'm sure there might be a few other hoses as well. It smells worse on the right side of the engine compartment.

I don't have a 328 - I have a Mondial. However, the symptoms were the same. Raw fuel smell.

In my case, it was one of the fuel lines that had started "weeping". No breaks or ruptures, just an old fuel line that degraded and allowed gas to weep through.

You should check each and every fuel line. Even if you cant see them, running your hand the length of each line should be sufficient. In my case, one of the lines felt "mushy" and damp. They are easy and cheap to replace. I bought a length at Autozone, and cut pieces to replace the various lines in my car.
