What surprises me is that there are actually differences this big in the way they start: Kudos to MS for making great starts but I don't get why? The lights go out in a pretty predictable fashion, I'm sure the drivers have practiced starts ad nauseam, so why is there still such a big difference? And how come some drivers (Buemi, MS) are clearly better at it than others (Webber)? Over the duration of a season it should even out, yet it doesn't.

In the case of MS I can even see how experience pays off to find that perfect hole but Buemi doesn't have that. Also Massa used to be a great starter in his Sauber days yet didn't have much F1 experience.

I don't quite understand it, either way (good or bad starter).

Were it easy everyone of us could do it;)
Even in the rarefied world of F1 some drivers have better reaction times, judgement and mechanical dexterity than others. Some cars may be better suited for faster starts than others (measured in milliseconds).

Rather funny thing to hear coming from some who believe MS is too old and has too slow reaction times to do this any longer lol.

    Moi? ;)
I had doubts to be sure but he still has skills. He's not the driver he once was but he certainly hasn't embarassed himself.

oh no not you really. Others for sure though. The old man drives his tail off. Nico sure doesn't start like that every single time. Nico has had some great starts though.

Will the blown diffusers be banned next season? If they are, Ferrari got an outside chance of having a great season..

Yes, exhaust is going to go back to the periscope style that they had a few years ago I believe. Exhaust has to exit above a certain height over the reference plane and in front of the rear axle.

MS has proven he is a good starter, he seems to always gain spots. I was the one that started the thread (actually bumped my thread from last year that I made after I noticed it). I think a good getaway is very important. Ask Webber.

Anyway, it's weird that he's this good at it now because in his pre-Mercedes career I always thought he was kind of crappy off the line.

And I think that's a pretty fair and good bet: I'm not truly confident that RB will win it again. McLaren or even Ferrari could be up to the task. But I think it is more realistic that they will.

My problem with the bet is, that now I have to root for Vettel and RB, which really goes against my heart. Oh well.

My problem is that now I can't root against Alonso because he's in the Ferrari... :D

    Agreed.

And I'm not truly confident they'll lose! :)

Tell me about it, you might even catch me rooting for Hamilton next year if it comes to that! But in all honesty I hope Ferrari can get their act together and give FA a top car because if he has one, no one is touching him.
