IMO sims can teach you coordination etc, but flying a cheap trainer in real life will prepare you a lot better.

If you lived closer I'd give you my old T-28, not shippable unfortunately.

Once you have a few near misses your brain won't let you do it again :)

Prepare for $$$$$$$$ to literally start flying away!

Oh you were thinking about an EDF A-10 as your first plane! Missed that part...
Yeah, much better idea to start out with a RC Sim (Realflight or Pheonix are two of the better ones, but I have Clearview which is $40 and will teach a new pilot just as well IMO), or if you've played flight sims (like MS Flight Simulator or hours and hours of PC games like Chuck Yeager or IL Sturmikov, like I did), know how an airplane's controls work and are moderately coordinated can just jump into a gentle flier like Bounce said a micro T-28 or even easier a Hobbyzone Champ
    http://www.amazon.com/Hobby-Zone-Champ-RTF/dp/B003DZ35GK

Vegas typically puts the over/under on the flight time before destruction of an EDF jet like the Warthog as a first plane at 10 seconds ;)

I just ran the stock Vampire to full throttle for the first time.

Sounds like poo at anything lower than 50% throttle as it's horribly unbalanced and I'm scared it was going to explode.

I'll try balance it but I'll just drop the 10 blade unit in and up the ESC.

Ps used a gopro suction mount on the skirting board of my wall to tie to the front landing gear as I couldn't find anything to use as chocks!

I also got a dx6i for Christmas. Got the MQX quad copter to bind and fly- actually a lot of fun. Flew around the neighborhood today, pretty easy.
I have a Gamma 370 trainer I put together also today- plan on flying tomorrow. How are the SIMs? Are they actually that realistic?

I picked up the Park Zone Mini Vapor tday. Binds with the dx6i. Flew it indoors. Actually kind of fun. Hopefully it will be good to transition to the Gamma 370 I snapped the props on yesterday.

Not sure what has happened but either I lost my confidence or my eye sight has terribly diminished which wasn't too good in the first place but it's making flying un enjoyable for me which is rather terrible considering I'm only 22... Optometrist here I come.

I crashed the The parkzone T-28 by flying at sunset and loosing orientation, I didn't even fight it I just let it crash.

Meanwhile my friend was flying his spitfire without issues...

And my second crash the the BF-109 which I also lost orientation couldn't tell which way it was going, I did fight with it and almost got it back but it was too late.

I've fixed her up though ready for another flight.

I didn't crash anything when I first learn to fly them, not a good feeling now!

Hope everyone is enjoy their toys though :)

And I just remember having the BF109 pretty high up when I heard the engine of a Ferrari, surely enough when I take a peak it's a 458 cruising which caused me almost another orientation crash :D

Tried to, was going to get it forwarded but found it most US delivery companies simply don't want to ship boxed that large from the US.

What are you after? Try find it closer in China or so.

    Bummer. Time for new glasses?

I also 86ed my PZ T-28 a few months ago. Was trying out one of these new, cheap 3-axis gyros , having good fun cutting through 10g20 winds nice and straight until I went to recover from an inverted circuit and ploughed into the ground. The gyro worked too well, slowing down (i.e. resisting) roll more than I expected. Next plane I try it on (maybe my EDF Jet) will just use it for rudder and maybe elevator.

I got my P-38 kit from them about 6 months ago, then the Stinger EDF a few months later. No complaints.

I'd build up enough credits with Hobbyking from spending a few hundred bucks with them over the past year to get one of these little flying wings at no cost:
    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__25663__Wing_Wing_Z_84_EPO_845mm_KIT_.html
Already had an extra ESC, 2000kV motor and couple cheap servos in my spare parts bin so threw it together and have had ~10 fun flights so far, some with snow landings.
Had to turn the elevator response WAY down (~50%) and expo WAY up (~50) to make it flyable, now it's happy gliding around at <25% throttle or blasting around with unlimited vertical at WOT. Easily gets 8 minutes on one of the awesome 1300mAh 3S packs I already had on hand for the Radjet. Nice and easy to throw it in the car for a quick fly just about anywhere.
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsYgpHYVmHw[/ame]

Right now my DX8i transmitter is on it's way back to Horizon for warranty work. The rudder trim switch never worked as well as the others but it would function with a firm push. Lately it gave up the ghost completely so sent it in before the 1yr warranty ran out.

Here's the completed Dual Radjet which I didn't quite get into the air before the big freeze hit. Made up a dolly for launching but need to tweak it a bit so the rear props clear the structure. Will be ready when the RC airfield thaws in a few months.

I've used these guys to order FMS parts in the past and the 1.4m T-28,

    http://www.hobby-paradise.com/en/product/item/1370/product_detail.html

1.7m P-51, no idea if that price is high or not though.

    I can't find the 1.4m though.

This is on special though, I think I might order it.

Love the Bf-109! And that scheme is lovely.

Started assembly of my JPower 1.4M P-38 kit.
There are quite a few improvements over the "V1" version: carbon fiber tube joining the main wing halves, different motor mount design - which still sucks - worm-gear retracts, better paint, reinforced attachments etc. Nonetheless still some weak points I wanted to address during the build.

Installed the uprated 1250kV motors (1250x16.8V = 21000 rpm at WOT) I ran on my 1st P-38 using the same plywood mounts.
Embedded a 1mm x 7mm carbon fiber strip along the entire main wing (was still too flexy for my taste even with a 4mm carbon tube pre-installed), reinforced the weak tail-boom to vert stab connections with 3mm CF rod and slightly widened the battery compartment to fit a nice big 2700mAh 4S pack.
Fun to use my grandfather's old Unimat lathe to enlarge the spinner hubs' hole size to fit the larger 6mm motor shafts. Will use counter-rotating Master Airscrew 9x7 3-bladed props again rather than the stock ones.

Also will replace the midget vietnam-era pilot with something else. The blond would be pretty hot!

It was almost 50F the last few days in Milwaukee but windy. Consistently nice flying weather is still a long ways off.

FYI two new P-38 foamies were just released: 1.2M and 800mm.
Fixed LG (which I'd be tempted to leave off and just hand launch/belly land) but both look pretty nicely made and well detailed. The 1.4m Lightning is a bit too much plane for the schoolyard 1/2 mile from my house; after some feedback on the new kits may not be able to resist one, or both for quick a P-38 fix when driving 30 minutes to Bong Park isn't feasible.

Man! That Stearman brings back some wonderful memories. Is that really a model? The details are very close and very good. Were do you get the streamlined wires? It would be nice to see the old medium blue and yellow wings on that one. Very nice, Jay.

    Incredible...

Is that actually a working 5 cylinder radial engine????

    Does it fly?

Radio control or tiny little people?
