    what editing software?
I've been using Youtube's editor (with 720p) for my last few vids and found that it does a nice job. They've really improved the stabilization feature (adjustable from 1-5) and even have a variable slow mo in addition to titles, transitions, clipping etc. I'm pretty sure you can upload 60fps too.
My F-82 maiden vid has some minor stabilization and slow mo at 1:34 (taken with a Pannasonic Lumix P&S)
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lxy0af7H2bg&list=UU-i32YPW7WSt5OSEUvGOaAQ][720p] F-82 Twin Mustang maiden flight (2x Durafly P-51d kit bash) - YouTube[/ame]

Neat to read you comments RE your real planes and RC!
Hard to imagine jumping right from a jumbo jet into the Eagle :)

I'm now reading Earnest Gann's chapters on the DC-2 and DC-3 so am sorely tempted by this new release:
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhnWA1RrQ1A[/ame]
Split flaps, retracts, lights, several airline/military sticker sets to choose from.
Must resist... have enough planes... and if I get a non-fighter plane it has to be a B-17.

I've been using Power Director as well as After Effects to edit. Didn't really do much to this video, no stabilization, just a few fades. Most stabilizers end up zooming somewhat and the final product isn't the resolution you started with. Although if you start with a high resolution (2.7k 4k) you can still end up with good 1080. I'll have to experiment some more. My favorite videos are of snakes. Sort of a crazy hobby of mine. Anyways, a gopro on a pole keeps you a reasonably safe distance, but the video can get shaky.

    First Blue Coral Snake.......

    [ame]http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uJd9abzrPVw[/ame]

    Waglers Pit Viper.

    [ame]http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QZZaI8T5FQM[/ame]

Used the pole on both of these. Both venomous. The coral is deadly. With the gopro, you have to get close with the wide angle. The camera about 12 inches away at some points. The pole is 2 1/2 feet.

    Good stuff!

There are so many cool RC planes today. I wish I had the time and money to fly all of them!

    damn, awesome snakes!

It kind of sucks that my new Toshiba Chromebook can't smoothly stream/play 1080p Youtube vids. No problem with 720p and they still look quite good, but it has a nice 1080p display just a weak graphics processor so every 3-4 seconds the image and sound stutter.

I hear you about stabilization cutting down on the resolution, but that F-82 footage was so jerky/shaky it had to be done. With good software 4k should do great with this as you say. Pixels to spare.

RE stabilizers i.e. gyros on planes, have you used any?

I've got one on my Corsair's rudder which really helps to tame it's tail wagging with crosswinds. Don't like flying with a stabilizer so much on ailerons or elevator, but have only used a cheap Hobbyking 3-axis one so the pricier/newer ones may be better.

Thanks. You got me motivated. I just took the slow stick down to the beach for a flight. Video to follow. Turned out pretty good and was a heck of a lot of fun. Flying a few feet off the water over surf was a little risky, but what the heck. Haven't used gyros on planes, but wouldn't hesitate doing so. The only RC plane I have flying right now is the Stick, so only rudder/elevator.

Here's the video. No time to edit. Just cut it from where the prop stopped (horizontally luckily) and flew it dead stick until the landing. Shot at 2.7K/30fps wide on GoPro

Today's model sport is simply incredible to me. I look back 73 years to my flying gas powered free flights where we got them cranked up, set the engine cut-off timer, hand launched them, and watched them soar into the blue and hoped that you got all the settings correct on down thrust to the right and incidence angles correct, etc. Then watch them go up in their tight spirals instead of crashing and then float on a thermal for three or four minutes, maybe more if you were lucky. The greatest loss was to see one float away somewhere when it was locked in a thermal and climbing out of sight. Look at what you can do now! Incredible!

Excellent video quality on that Lou, and nice flying! With a flying field like that I can see why you like slow cruising, must be very relaxing.
You better be careful or someone will think it's a drone and report you ;)

In the pic of your plane I see ailerons, do you just not have them hooked up?
I've never flown a elev&rudder only plane, guess as long as you're not rolling it the Slow Stick has no need for ailerons?

Bob, that's nothing... I'm sure this video was posted before since it's 2 years old, but check out what's possible nowadays.
The pilot is wearing goggles with tiny LCD screens for "first person video", also with head tracking sensors so it's just about as close as one can get to flying, with both feet on the ground.
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPlWho3KJHY]Eurofighter FPV maiden - YouTube[/ame]

The builder/pilot is like Lou; flies commercial jets for a living (BA I think) and plays with models during his free time.

I wish there was a commercially available transmitter with a full sized stick and throttle, on some kind of shelf supported by your neck/shoulders. Would take RC flying to the next level of realism I think. People have built their own (more for RC helis than planes) but for some reason it's just not caught on and we're still using little thumb sticks.

That is a cool video. Seeing the "pilots" hands move is really cool. Got me thinking!

That slow stick has indents where there could be ailerons, but it was designed for rudder/elevator. It's so simple the way it is, I don't think I'll ever try setting them up. I'm looking at a cheap ($60) 2 axis gimbal that I can mount the GoPro to. That should help a lot. The other problem with my setup is that it's a hand toss and catch landing. Otherwise it's the camera that'll hit first. But as long as I'm careful, I should be OK.

While on an overnight in New York quite a few years ago, I was watching the sunset out the 35th floor. I'm not sure what inspired me, but I made a few paper airplanes and set them free. There was a slight breeze blowing directly at me. Anyways, one paper airplane I through flew for 8 minutes before landing below. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. It went down some at first and headed west. It slowly turned back and started climbing. It repeated this cycle many times. Sometimes is was below me, other times way above me. I couldn't really believe me eyes. A few times it came within 10 feet of my window. I wish I would have recorded it somehow. It finally landed on the street below as the sunset. Sounds kinda weird, but it was actually one of the cooler things I've done.

Your experience reminds me of an incident while high up on Mt. Ranier in the 50's. We stopped climbing to have lunch at the base of a tall morane and in those days one didn't care about throwing trash away on the mountain so i climbed up on the morane and threw an empty bean can over the top. Five minutes later it cam down out of the sky and landed in front of me.
I went up and repeated my act again but I stayed up there and watched it. It never hit the earth (snow) and bounced around in the air for a while and came right back up.

Lou, you live there? I used to live right in that community at 12 o'clock (newer homes behind the retail complex).

On another note, don't think this was posted, but RC Airbus A310, reportedly filled with helium so it could fly slow without losing lift (fuselage looks like it's partial balloon). Really cool.

I live close by where the old Meadowlard Airport used to be. I wish I lived on the beach there. I rented a house on Sunset Beach for about 3 years, but that was 20 years ago!

I actually thought about using a long skinny balloon with helium and then strapping some wings to it, but nothing like that. That's awesome.

That is really amazing! Wingspan of 2m and flying weight of 286g (10oz)! My lightest plane is triple the weight, 1/3 the wingspan and don't have retracts, spoilers, flaps, lights etc.
    REALLY nice flying too.
I tried googling for construction details and only came up with this old RCG thread with only a few pics and very little details from the builder: modell-hobby-spiel 2011 - Page 2 - RC Groups

For those who watched the movie, "Interstellar".

Shot this video a few years ago. The set for the movie was there. I didn't know what the movie was at the time. Anyway, Brand, I landed first. Before Edwards too. Maybe I'll name the planet. I should have stayed and waited for Anne Hathaway. She was supposed to show up the day after we left.

    Cool video and dramatic landscape!
Haven't seen Intersteller yet, but will keep an eye out :)

With a new baby around haven't been flying much lately but last Saturday was the nicest weather in a while so got out to Scobee field for a few hours.
Had a Dynam 1.5m ME-262 for a little bit but hadn't built it, so put it together and got her in the air.
Going to paint it in a fantasy racer scheme, but before putting in the time wanted to make sure she flew. And landed.
Fly she did. Really nice power and handling, easy landings even with a 5g15 crosswind. Amazing bit of kit for $210.
Now my heaviest plane at 3.0kg. Stock powerplants put out ~2.5kg thrust, get ~4.5 minutes from two 3300mAh 60C Zippy Compact batteries.

Put the keychain cam on a servo mounted in a spare cockpit for some pilot's eye video from the F-82. Takes some practice working the ch-8 knob with my right index finger to pan the camera, while flying smoothly. Would be much easier with a set of head-tracking goggles hooked up to FPV gear ;)

Finally got around to flying my Horizon micro Icon A5 yesterday. I've taken it with me the last several times we've gone down to our place in Pensacola, but yesterday was the first time the wind was calm enough for me to try a maiden flight.

What a sweet flying airplane! Extremely smooth and stable. Plenty of power. The gyro system seems to really be dialed in well from the factory. Holds headings and attitude steady, smooths things out nicely without being intrusive or really noticeable at all. Does great taking off and landing on water. I highly recommend one if you've got water anywhere nearby.

I do really now want to get a larger size seaplane at some point. Down by the coast it is almost always windy, and it is just too much for these small micro sized models. Actually an even bigger problem than flying it would be dealing with the waves or chop on the water more than a light wind would create. Anybody got a recommendation on a nice 30-40 inch span (or larger) seaplane model?

    Cool flying site!
I haven't flown my Icon in about a year. It's been dunked a couple times (fresh water), and if the wind wasn't blowing I'd have had a yucky swim in our development's "lake" to retrieve... All it takes is slightly catching one wing and over she goes.

Did get another flight in with the primered ME-262 last weekend before winds went from <5 to 10g20 straight across the runway, and maidened a Vampire I built up from a bare airframe kit and extra parts laying around for <$100. She's a really fun flier. No LG so just toss into the wind and belly land in soft grass. No rudders and doesn't seem to miss them. Carves turns beautifully and is very stable even in pretty wicked winds. Excellent power with this 70mm EDF unit I picked up on sale for $27. Dynamically balanced and very smooth running, sounds nice for a 5 blader, and moves some serious air. Have 2 more of them that will get swapped into the 262, to increase thrust by ~20% throughout the throttle/voltage range.

Will be finish painting the ME-262 over the next few weeks. Gonna be sweet :)

Holy cow Nathan... I want to take your side on this of course but the wife has a strong case! ;)
All I can pick out is a FW190 nose?

Weather's been quite crappy down here in TX so after the boy is put away for the night have been finishing up the Gulf ME-262. Just need a relatively dry, warm day to spray the clear coat, and mount the new fans (each has ~1.2kg thrust vs ~1kg stock, plus much better balanced) and she's done.

Have snuck out to a nearby field to put a few more flights on the Vampire. Not the easiest to see at a distance in overcast skies but very nice all around performance and easy to toss in the air and softly belly land in the long grass.
