I am in the process of possibly re-locating to the Houston area. Northewest area between 249 and 45 beyond the beltway. Can any of you share what the ferrari life is like out there. Are there some rural roads in the northwest area where the Fcar can be streched without too many cars and police. I know about the dealer as I have visited a few times. Are there many specialists who know about keeping older carbed cars running well. Just looking for info about the area and the local Ferrari crowd. Should know in the next few weeks if the move will happen or not.

Thanks in advance for any comments.
    Regards,
    JP

Lamborghini of Houston will be in your backyard. Right off of I45 near the beltway. Opening in late January is their current schedule.

Get a radar detector - police are active up here.

Yes, plenty of good roads. Local FCA chapter runs up in this area (I live where you are referring to moving).

We haven't set the calendar for 2006 yet, but once we do, it will also be at the above.

I'm in the Northwest area too, 290 & Beltway 8. Great area to live in. Not very often we get our neighbors to the north moving so far down south. Welcome to the friendliest state there is and let us help you in anyway we can to get accustom to Houston. Any tips and/or pointers you may want just ask.

Thanks all for the response. I am trying not to get too far ahead of myself. Spent the week-end searching houses on the internet....now my eyes are buggy. Once I know for sure I am moving I will let you all know....or should that be y'all. ;-)

    Thanks again for the info.

JP, if you give me a PM, I'll give you the email address of the President of the local FCA chapter. We have a pretty active group that likes to go on exercise runs.

Speaking of which, you are headed in the right direction, but it is getting harder and harder to have spirited runs. Too many Harleys and too many bicycles and not enough good roads.

    Dale

PS You may wish to check out The Woodlands for a new home.

Grady has already contacted me by e-mail, and when I get 2 seconds to respond I will be getting back to him.

I don't want to jinx anything so I am waiting to hear for sure if there is a moving van in my future before getting to excited about the change.

Well it looks like the family and the 308 are coming to Houston. I was in the woodlands areas last week-end looking at homes and we hope to be re-locating down to Houston in the next 3-4 months. I look forward to meeting the local group and joining in your events.

    Regards,
    JP

Pls PM me if you want the scoop on builders and neighborhoods in The Woodlands. I have been in the game since 1977.

    jpl,

If you decide to buy new, please PM me. I have a friend who is a mortgage broker and an agent. He can save you a bundle on a new home by giving you back part of the 3% sellers agents fee at closing. His mortgage rates are also pretty good.

Bye the way, where is work? If it's down town, you may want to reconsider as the Woodlands to Downtown is a LONG drive.

Dale ... good to know ... I just joined the FCA in November 05 but have been busy with work and buying a house - I will be in the Woodlands Alden Bridge area. Hopefully the move will be done by the end of this month and I can meet all of you. Drives sounds cool to me :)

Can you PM me the FCA-H president's email - I will introduce myself to him.

    Thanks

PS - It seems to me that there are very few FCA members on F-chat - I always see some event or drive posted for the Austin or Dallas area but nothing in the Houston area.

Work will be from home, or the HP office on 249, so I am not worried about the drive. As to a mortgage broker/real-estate person, thanks but I don't need the mortgage and already have a real-estate agent. I worked with her last week-end when I was in Houston and will stick with her as I was very happy with her work. It's now just a matter of selling what I have up here and finding a home and finalizing the move. It's going to be a busy next 3-4 months. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I live at just West of 249/1960. My neighbor works for HP. He leaves at 7:50AM and it at his desk before 8AM.

I work in the medical center. I leave at 5:50AM and get to my desk ~ 6:30. If I leave after 6AM i'm not here until 7.

Gleanloch Farms is a nice area but not built up yet. At least, the access is not built up yet. Of course, that's Houston. Klein has some excellent schools.

There are lots of good area's on both sides of 249.

Shoot me a PM on your price range and I'd be happy to share more info. on what's around.

I've got a GTB as well.

Just FYI on my broker friend, he just will act as your agent on a NEW home. The builders will pay the sellers agent fee and will not negotiate against it. As in, if you negotiate a price, then come in with an agent, they pay the 3%. But if you ask them to take 3% off for not having an agent they won't even discuss it. What he does is act as your agent, take 1% of that commission and write back 2% of it to you at closing. On a $200k home, you'd get a $6,000 credit back to you from the builder. But you've got an agent already.

I to will likely be relocating to the Houston area from New Orleans.

The plant we're building there will most likely be located at beltway 8 & Highway 59.

Moving to The Woodlands is a common suggestion. We looked around and it is a nice area. But the resale homes (in our price range) don't have much character. The new construction is all the way in the back and it looks like a time consuming drive to get to 45.

Also looked at Kingwood. There is some new construction in Kingwood but not much. Since it's annexed to Houston City limits the taxes + homeowners fees in Kingwood are slightly higher then the same in The Woodlands.

So what about the areas called Humble, Spring, ect? Very good public schools are a must. 3 car garage is a big plus- esp. if one of them is seperate from the dual garage. One thing I have to say is that there is lots of competion for home bulders in the area.

Just a quick update. Home is being built in The Preserves, which is just beside Augusta Pines just south of the Woodlands. Home is supposed to be finished Mid to end of May. Mortgage all worked out. The 308 should be running up and down Kuykendahl sometime in mid June.
