    I would be grateful for advice on tightening my head bolts ( as a winter project). I have seen the advice on other threads but I would just like some more detail as Im a complete novice on this.

    Previous thread stated:

    ''Tighten box nuts to the torque of 50Nm(5 kgm) according to the sequence listed below, finally tighten them to 100Nm(10 kgm)

    2 rows of 7 each:
    Inside row(from left to right)= 14, 10,6, 2, 3, 7, 11
    Outside row (" " " " )= 13, 9, 5, 1, 4, 8, 12

    You're basically starting in the center and working towards the ends of the heads.

    100Nm=73.7561 ft.lbs.''

    A step by step process would be useful to me and maybe others.

    The issues I have are:

    1. Which bolts and sequence are we talking about
    2. the process of tightening (unscrew then re-torque)
    3. The bolts I think they are are like inverted and quite smooth on the inside

    I attach a photo of what Im looking at.

    The studs your looking for cant be seen in that picture, you need to remove the cam covers. Also, you will want to loosen them before retightening, but not all at studs at once, just one at a time, in turn. Loosen, retighten to max torque without any steps. If any refuse to tighten without chattering, remove the nut and clean the threads.

    The real job is to get at the head bolts. You will have to remove both the fuel injestion air box/dist. intake cover, intake manifold which is also the exhoust cam cover, the intake cam cover,box, the plates on the back of the heads the ignition dist. and more I did not mention. It took me a day and a half to do that then a hour to tighten the head bolts while you are right there check vlave clearence and then two days to go back togeather. I Ordered gaskets after I had it apart becouse I did not know all the stuff I would need till then. All my gaskets added up to $55.00 so they are not pricey. Take your time and have fun it really will be rewarding.
