Thought of something. How about re-working the photo contest to something slightly different? I was thinking more along the lines of "Picture Of The Day". I am running two POTD "competitions". It's not really competitions, only with yourself. Anyway, I am engaged in 2. One entirely for myself where I shoot whatever picture I please. The other is based on monthly subjects. Todays subject was a corner of your home. I have two friends playing along on that one So I was thinking making the Fchat photo contest more like the second POTD. Just monthly. We throw out some subjects now. Vote on them. The 12 with the most votes are then selected for 1 year forward. Each starting on the 1st of the month and ending on whatever date the month end. Then when we start the new one we can vote on the previous one, or delay it a bit if we are in need of time elsewhere. Of course if we start this, we would have to do it from April and until and with December. What do you think??
Interesting idea. That definitely could work. I think that the contest could be tweaked a little to get more participants. What if the contest was just to post your best photo of any subject from the past month and we can just vote on that? Maybe make it anything but cars to keep it from being a car photo contest? Just a few thoughts. I am open to whatever gets more people (myself included as I have not participated in a while) involved.
I definitely agree that we need to do something to get more people to participate. Not sure how much I like the idea of picking all 12 subjects out ahead of time, at the end of the day the contest is so that we can learn by doing, there are plenty of threads elsewhere just being able to show off your work. I really shouldn't have much of a say though, this is the first one I've participated in for a looooooong time.
I also like the idea from Pars. My main goal was just to get more peeps to participate. We can all learn from each other. I like the idea about anything but cars eventhoughba car here and there is fine enough. There are no fancy cars around here. People hide their f-cars, Lambos etc. So it is extremely difficult to get pics of those. And C&C dont excist over here.
In my opinion, the biggest drawback of submitting any picture from the last month is that the contest was supposed to motivate you to go out and shoot a specific subject. That will be lost if we just submit anything. I had a great time going to the park Saturday morning walking around and trying to take pictures of birds, I wouldn't have done that if not for the photo challenge here. I do think allowing an open subject contest will get more people though.
Maybe we could throw a poll up in Silver and see what it would take to get those who don't participate to do so, I mean everyone has a decent camera on their cell phone now.
There is already a post anything you want thread, called Daily Random Pictures You Have Taken, so that option already seems covered. 12 months advance is just far, far, far to organized for this board. If you really want a lot of participation, you should be joining in over at Fred Miranda's board, since they have well attended Weekly and Monthly contests. This seems fun as a casual event here on F-chat, but trying to hype this on an automotive forum instead of a photography forum just seems futile. It's already done better elsewhere. It's legal to join more than one online forum, you know.
