Does anyone know how to read the VIN for a 1990 Ferrari Testarossa? I am looking to purchase my first Ferrari, and I just want to make sure that it is a wise buy. I am a little skeptical on the original paint color, and I had hoped maybe the VIN might point me in the right direction. The VIN is ZFFSG17A4L0084211. I appreciate any info you may have.

Thank you, both. I really appreciate the feedback and info. CFCarriage, I am concerned b/c the picture that mymc posted is of a red 1990 TR, but the car that I am looking at purchasing is a gray 1990 TR. I am having a friend go check it out tomorrow. I will make sure that he validates the VIN. Thanks again for the help.

The best resource for decoding the VIN is Edvar Van Daalen's page here: http://www.red-headed.com/index2.html - scroll to the bottom and select the 'Decoding the VIN' link, or maybe Edvar will notice this thread and post a direct link. As stated, the VIN does not tell you colour info.

The original paint colour of a Testarossa should be on a sticker under the engine lid.

Also drop a note to Carbon McCoy with the VIN and he can tell you what history FML have on the car.

The VIN you list I have as a Red with Tan car. Two owners when offered for sale in New Jersey a year ago, but Carbon will surely have more.
