Hello All, I've been offline for a few weeks, but the last 2 have been very busy on the 308. I'll make a separate thread on the mech work, but I'm getting ready for a repaint. Car has original enamal paint and the upper surfaces are covered in small cracks but the sides and door jambs still look great. Local paint shop says they can sand, seal and repaint without having to go to the metal. I have had scores of cars repainted over the years, so I am prepared for the standard pre-paint prep. I will remove engine lid, bumpers, markers, locks, etc ... What words of wisdom do you have that are specific to the 308? Mine is the stereotypical Magnumobile. What are some of the paint brands / numbers have you found to be correct? Thank you
Ur painter has an existing relationship with a 'brand" best to let him use that.... It's really all about the sealer and gong to 'bare' is not always best. maybe some of our painters will chime in.
You don't want to go to the metal on these -- there's a ton of filler in them from the factory, and the more you dig the worse it gets. Handbuilt means error by design.
You can find all the black rivets at carquest in the book behind the counter. Get an old school arrow rivet gun to reinstall the engine lid loovers. rl100 is part number. Marker lights can be had through Ferr for about $20 per corner, tail light set for 630 or so through SF...might as well step up with fresh. Keep up with the shim locations on the headlight assemblies. Have fun and enjoy the process and result.
No damage on removal. I just replaced mine as the corners were dirt cheap, and my original rears were not as bright as new even after cleaning. I sold those old ones on ebay for those looking for single replacements for patina matching purposes for a little over 400. So for net 200 or so for OEM new, I jumped.
