I have decided to purchase an Fcar from one of my local reputable dealers. He is located right next door to a great independent Fcar service company (SportAuto in CT) about 45 miles away from me. I have decided to buy a car locally so that I can see, touch and smell for myself what exactly the car is. The 308's i am looking at are at www.forzamotorsports.com. Please take a quick look at the 4 cars they are offering from $28k-43k and let me know which car you would go for and why. I am also considering a 1988.5 TR at www.millermotorcars.com, single owner 15k miles, full recent services for $60ish. Any reliability or trouble spots I should be wary of on any of these cars. I am NOT mechanically inclined! Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

    thanks to a great board,

    David

Well, if you want a carbed car and/or a GTB, you only have 1 option -- the 78.

The QVs are both kinda at the top of the price range. I wouldn't be too worried about the mileage difference, just drive both and see which one feels better to you.

The GTSi is also pretty highly priced relative to the market, but if that's a factory yellow paint job then it's also the rarest of the color combinations offered here.

Personally, I'd buy the yellow one (but not at that price) just because I like the screaming color.

Just the opinion of a random guy on the internet.

PS: Have you seen that white Mondial by any chance? I have a friend that might be interested in that car.

    On the yellow GTSi;
The side view mirrors are not stock and are usually black.

The windshield frame is yellow and if I'm not mistaken came black from the factory for the GTS.

The outflow vents on the front fenders are black. For that year I believe they were body color. The black ones didn't show up until the US spec QV.

The exhaust shroud (diaper) is yellow. That came black from the factory also.

I am guessing this one may have been a repaint which if done properly isn't a bad thing unless you are looking for an all original car.

If the car is really clean and well maintained with no issues I would offer 26k max.

Piant the diaper black and you're good to go..................

Correct me if I am wrong, please

Out of curiousity, it's quite a jump from a 308 to a Testarossa.
If you can afford to buy a TR and still have 8 to 10k left over for unforseen expenses I would go for the TR. As an owner of an Oldslow308; the 308 is not the quickest in acceleration by todays standards. As a matter of fact it's a dog so if you are interested in better performance then a TR might be the ticket. I love my 308 but I am too big (6'2", 220lbs) for it and it isn't much fun on long drives. The following comments are biased but fairly valid.

The TR has more power (obviously)
More room for a larger person, 6'+
    Ergonomics are better.
The sound of a flat 12 with Tubi exhaust is reason enough.
Did I say it had more power? Roughly twice what the 308 has.

    The down side is.
Everything for the car costs at least twice as much, parts, service, insurance.
They don't build a Spider version although you can find a conversion or two around.
They don't handle as well as a 308.
To some the syling is dated and not as classic as a 308.

I could go on but you can get the picture.

I'd go with the black 308 GTB, or the 365, or maybe the Bora (I know you said Ferrari). I'd like to have a few of them.

The black GTB, as long as the A/C works good. Looks nice in teh pictures anyway.................
The Bora is really cool too. Wouldn't mind that one myself as well as the GTC/4.

    David,

Recently sold my 308 for a 328. If you can spend 42K or so I would suggest a 328. Many 328's on ebay right now. Just my humble opinion.

That GTSi sounds intriguing, primarily because in Hemming's Motor News, Forza says it's the fastest 308 he's ever driven. It is certainly not stock if that is the case! I would find out what mods have been done to that - could be a winner with that color combo.
