Whew... I've waited my whole life to purchase a Ferrari--and it looks like within the next 1-2 years, I may be able to achieve the dream.

Questions: I'm in Columbus, OH. Where's the best place to buy? And, I'm not looking for an Enzo or even a Modena. More like a 308 or 328. Looking to spend under $40K for a nice model. Is this doable?

    Thanks,

    Patrick

With a budget of $40K, you'll be better off with a 308. You'll have money left-over for the "little" things that'll come up.

Can't speak for where to buy...

yes, it's doable. Do your homework, shop hard, then buy a 308QV Euro. Late model, 1985 if you can find one. Great car.
Member Steve Rochlin has a nice one.

Don't give up on 328s. I found a nice one for $35k--rare, but doable. And you'll have enough left over for shipping and upgrades; just make sure it doesn't have a major service scheduled soon.

I found mine on eBay but actually made the purchase over the phone and flew out to inspect the car before handing over the money. It is possible!

Does Midwest Auto Group still exist?

I'd go check out cars there in Dublin and find out what you like, and how much what you like might cost.

Yes, they did the major service on my 512TR.
Ask for Jeff Zimmerman and give him my name.

    Good luck.

I would try hard for a 328, unless you heart is set on 308's. 40k is doable, for a well maintained, but driven car.

Agreed a late model EURO 308 is the way to go IMHO. Find a good example and have a bucket-load of extra funds for things like future major service/new bushings/etc. Forget a US 308, lower compression, added weight, cat pipes... US emissions/law is a great way to kill a good design in these old cars IMHO.

In fact even today many great cars are compromised due to such US limitations and this is why certain wonderful cars never really make it to US shores in numbers :(

If you are patient, you can find a nice 348 with some miles in the very low $40's. I looked at several in the past year and bought one of them. The key is finding a motivated seller. You can buy a Ferrari at market value any day of the week. So be patient.
