http://offer.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=8073830993 according to the seller this is an original pouch for a ferrari dino. what do you guys think?
The script looks supect http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8073830993 Look at the seller's location, possibly the high bidder.
the seller told me the pouch was an original. it isn't like any other pouch i have seen. it is a cross between the early dino pouch with the tan silk lining and the outside pocket and the pouch with the red silk lining. i may be wrong, but i think any bidders should be cautious. then again, they can wait until next week when scuderia rossa finds a stash that he will offer at below market prices.
I have two 308GTBs less than 300 VIN #s apart ...the Owner's Pouches are different color leather with different liners as well, it's hard to say.....
This is exactly like the pouch I have with my 74 Dino. Mine came with the car when purchased 3 yrs ago. I was told it is original. The books that came with it are also original, but not from my cars original sale.
please post photos!!!! if this is the case, i would like real info. i don't want to disparage an auction, but i have never run across this type of pouch before. the quicker the info the better.
How long have the South American copies been produced? I could imagine a crafty person might purposefully spill on the interior to make those stains so as to appear aged and used.
Again, adding pictures so that a year from now this thread still makes sense. dm Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
also add the picture of the dino 308gt4 owners manual against the pouch as with it one can determine the proportion of the dino script to the printing on the pouch
What is the name on the snap receiver? Does it match the known pouches? Hard to duplicate the silk lining. Would like to see a better picture of the lining from the seller. I have seen this color of lining on a Dino pouch that had round corners and Dino script in a rectangle.
From my resident pouch expert in a recent email.... "pouch proportion to script wrong . script proportion to '1975 ' on owners manual wrong. script type wrong." check the writing... measurements. i provided enough items in the picture for proportion. example a light switch, a plug , the actual 1975 owners manual" He's absolutely sure this ebay item ain't the real deal, and his opinion is good enough for me. I've attached his pix!! dm Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
From the ebay listing. ONE LAST PIC. side by side with the real deal. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Look at the close up picture of the rectangle on the sellers pouch. Use his picture like a graph. Count the stiches up the side and accross the bottom to size it up the rectangle.
I think we can pretty much agree there's something funny going on with this one. Wonder if we should let the bidders know? Here's the Dino script from a real one and the ebay item, at exactly the same scale. DM Image Unavailable, Please Login
dave, thanks for going the extra mile. i started this thread after reading comments on another thread. i didn't want anyone to get a SURPRISE. i also didn't want to throw stones without opening the topic up for discussion. over the years, i have learned a great amount from people who have no reason to blow smoke (you know who you are - even though you don't post often). at the same time, i would hate to see someone get taken advantage of. you will notice that this pouch is "mysteriously" not covered in my previous thread about dino pouches. i will let you all draw your own conclusions why. that being said, this is a good repro pouch if one wants to spend the money. i have to believe that at this price, a better repro could be made. or at least a repro that repros a REAL pouch could be made.
It's a mystery to me why folks have to pawn fakes off as real... Well, not really. When they started hitting $3000, good and not so good forgeries were bound to appear. Fortunately, I have a guardian angel watching my back, making sure I don't make a giant purchasing error. And hell yes, it would be great to get those kind of folks to post here more often. If we could get some of the guys here to listen to what they have to say, instead of taking cheap shots at them and automatically doubting their word. I had a similar experience on ebay... I took a cheap shot at a guy who was always beating my bids. Fortunately that worked out okay for me in the long run, after taking the time to get to know the sniper a bit better. DM
